"Well, I suppose now you can carry on with your life. Voldemort taken care of, you should start worrying about the wedding plans!"
Ron's tone of voice is light and teasing, but Harry stops suddenly as if frozen. It's still the time of celebrating, barely 24 hours since Voldemort has been defeated. Even way past midnight Hogsmeade's streets are quite crowded with people cheering the victory as if to make the grief and sorrow wait for later. Some man already unsteady on his feet from the celebration collides with the suddenly not moving Harry. The angry look disappears, when he notices with whom he bumped and he just nods and smiles. Harry doesn't even notice, his expression frozen in shock, his eyes glued to Ron.
"W-what?" he whispers and his friend looks at him with concern.
"Well, you know... You promised Ginny that if you'll survive you'll marry her, remember? I mean... You do want to marry her, right?" he suddenly huffs a laugh, sounding only slightly strained. "After all if you wouldn't want to, you wouldn't promise that, right?"
"Right," agrees Harry, starting to walk again.
He swallows the bitter, cold words of truth that he promised that only since he never expected to survive. A promise was still a promise... And it's not like he had other plans.
