I'd hate it if someone I really admired was a dick to me. It's happened on a couple of occasions with comic artists (my home town in Spain holds a convention), but I've found that most authors are really sweet and kind.

May we ask who was the unkind author? Forewarned is forarmed and all that. I do tend to be a bit of a fangirl over things I'm passionate about :P

Would it be appropriate to mention the friend? Who is also a published author of very good urban fantasy and zombie post-apoc stuff.

Original poster declined to name dickish author, since the point of her post was about failing to understand the concept of being dismissive of fannish behaviour when (as was the case here) the author was at a signing table so it was an appropriate place for her to be fannish at them.

I can certainly understand how she feels, having come upon dickish attitudes myself. I was just hoping that it isn't one of my more admired authors :)
