Popular TV series, Blood Ties, has been nominated for a Constellation Award, Canada’s fan awards for excellence in science fiction television and film. A press release issued April 22, 2008, announces that Tanya Huff, author and creator of Blood Ties, has been nominated in the category of Outstanding Canadian Contribution to Science Fiction Film or Television in 2007.
So this came to my attention today and while it's very flattering, it's also very inaccurate. I created the books that Blood Ties was based on... I did NOT create Blood Ties. The show was the creation of the brilliant Peter Mohan -- with help from an enormously talented crew and some pretty fine actors. While my admiration of the show and the people involved was/is enormous, my actual contribution was minimal.
I've just sent an email to the constellation people asking that the nomination be in Peter's name and if that can't be done, that mine be withdrawn. If they want to honour Peter or any of the other amazing people who worked to bring Blood Ties to the screen, I'll be in the front row cheering but I can't accept a nomination for something I didn't do.
