I am somewhat behind on the fourth Valor book -- given the television show and well, things. (don't worry, I'll finish on time but the last few months won't be fun) One of those things might just possibly be a small addiction to spider solitaire. I can, literally, play until my shoulder comes out of the socket ( Read more... )

Using Windows makes people smarter by causing them to understand words like 'entropy'.

Out of physics and into faith it's kind of a God/Job relationship...

Oh, I hear ya about spider! (I've also been known to use an undocumented streaming feature on "Same Game" and speed-cascade without ceasing for hours.)

Looking forward with great glee and anticipation to books 3 & 4 of 'Valor'! ;D

Wow, you're way worse than I am.

What is this "speed cascading" you speak of???

If you press and hold the, um, ... that button there with the MS flag-thing, between Control and Alt, then the space bar (it has to be done in that order, and the mouse/curser must be in the game area when you first depress them!), and keep holding both, then you can just move the mouse around and quick-disintegrate groupings. Goes much fast if the sound is off, too. Then it becomes an adrenaline game, rather than a strategy one .... %]

I loved the first one... the CLASSIC Morning After The Night Before Been there, done that, fortunately NOT with the particular way that "and then her day got even worse...."

(But there was no mention of the 35" wide military transient quarter beds that at least the US military had...)

Our transient quarter beds were pretty much full twins. Now the bunks on my JLC, they came in at around 35" wide. I know I looked at a top bunk, said, "Are you insane?" and threw my gear on the bottom -- which only involved the minor terror of having the top bunk collapse on you.

I don't remember if the beds in the I-don't-remember-what-the-rooms-full-of-bunk-beds-were-called in the scanner building up at BMEWS Site I were double or triple high bunk beds. Got "phased in" once--the weather got so bad that there was no travel from the base to the BMEWS site something like 12 road miles away, Phase Alert was a warning that the weather was nasty and getting nastier... a Phase 3 involved two of wind chill factor no higher than 40 below, windspeed of something nasty, and visibility a quarter or less. When the weather hit Phase 3, unless someone were in danger of expiration, everyone except the Arctic Cat operators were under orders to stay wherever they were, in whatever condition--stories went around that someone up at the radar site broke a leg and the base sent an Artic Cat up to collect the person, the vehicle driver got lost and drove over a lake, the vehicle went down and nothing, not vehicle, not bodies, were ever recovered. Other stories were of people venturing out and being blown away and their bodies ( ... )

Ha! I just finished the second one last night and checked Amazon to see if/when there'd be a third one. How very thrilling to know there will be a fourth as well!

Excellent - I'll have more opportunity to hero-worship Staff Sergeant Kerr.
