Leave GRRM Alone People!

George R.R. Martin (GRRM), Fantasy Author Extraordinaire (sp?) blogs on LJ, in case you didn't know. He's a prolific writer and editor but is most well known (I think) for his series "A Song of Ice and Fire", which starts with the book "A Game of Thrones" - if you're interested. It's being looked at by HBO, btw, as a new series, with the Pilot in the works.

GRRM is one of my most favorite authors. He writes characters with such depth and dimension, it's wonderful. And his books are very real, like cuttingly, jarringly, heartbreakingly real. Characters... dare I say it? Characters sometimes die. Really. And there are no Good Guys and Bad Guys, there are only many shades of gray. Just when you think you have someone figured out and have decided you Love 'em or Hate 'em, that charachter does something so unexpected it leaves you sitting there, book in hand, jaw-dropped, going - Wow!

So I love GRRM. I think he's an incredible author and while not every single one of his books in the Ice and Fire series have been amazing, they've all been wonderful. And I am, along with his thousands of other fans, eagerly awaiting the next book.

GRRM recently posted (on LJ) that he's getting harassed, more or less, by supposed fans who want him to do nothing but focus on the book. It's going to possibly come out this Fall, but no guarantee. GRRM was hoping to have finished it the end of 2007, which got pushed to June 2008, then the end of 2008, and now potentially June '09 with release expected in the Fall. And he might not make that date either and you know what? SO WHAT?

Apparently people are badgering him, yelling at him that he shouldn't work on his editing projects, or travel, or work on other books but only work on the Ice and Fire book. They've yelled at him about watching NFL games and blogging about them. They've yelled at him for blogging, period! Like, How dare he Blog when he should be writing my book! These people sound like they want him chained to a computer until he finishes. Type Monkey, type!

GRRM reported that at least one person said something about him being old and fat, and that he'd better not die before finishing the series. Really? Seriously, that was necessary? How totally repugnant.

As though he has no right to a life. As if his sole purpose for existing is to accomodate them. Get Over Yourselves, people! He's a person, like anyone else. All Work and No Play Make Jack a Crazy Ax Murderer. You people are so... ugh! Just... disgusting. Self-absorbed, narcissistic toad lickers. Ok, I ran out of my big words but toad licking is gross. Here you go - you people are Cersei-esque! (book reference, btw)

I'm excited for the new book but it's not my life. Guess what - if it's anyone's life, it's GRRM's. And he has a right to it. So shut up and let him live it.

I would just like to say, for the record, that GRRM should take his sweet@ss time and write the book right. Do it in his own time, wait for it to really be finished, wait until he thinks it's ready. He's the author, that's his job! I'd rather wait for a quality book that's going to meet my expectations and really feed my hunger for this story than get a shoddy-@ss POS that I'll just be unsatisfied and angry with.

That's my say anyhow. And way to go, GRRM, to respond with the Ricky Nelson video. I love it. You're my Jamie! Or... my Jon? Bran? Heck, who is the Hero in your story anyhow?
