you've been taking up my mind
The rockstar icon is for Reasons, namely that it's that time of year again when One Direction release an album that's so insanely catchy it makes me want to have my iPod with me forever. This year there is added guitar, so as you can imagine I emotionally compromised and may actually buy the physical album if I have any monies spare. And since I'm pretty sure I don't know how to like a thing without reading porn about it, I am pencilling in time to find and read all the fic...soonish. (I am solving the pairing problem by aiming for OT5 fic, because when in doubt, orgies! Also it worked for me with Panic!, so) Plus the fandom always seems so happy and delighted because their canon is insane and it's like bandom at it's finest and yesssss.
(it can be inferred from the above that SPN and I are having some Issues; it's partly the show and partly the fandom and partly the MCU doing the thing with Loki that's far more interesting. I'm not leaving the fandom or anything, just putting it on the backburner in favour of complicated homicidal Norse god-aliens and five human puppies who harmonise most excellently)
No but I really really like Midnight Memories. There's all those pop hooks, plus harmonies (we all know that gang/layered vocals are my kryptonite so I am basically dead already) AND THEN GUITAR. The ~rockier songs remind me of Bryan Adams, little bit? The way there's no epic twiddly solos, just power cords over a beat that make you want to follow along. And the other songs have little bits that sound like other pop songs (eg the intro of the currently playing "Strong" --> "What Doesn't Kill You") and it's fun to play the what the fuck does this sound like game while still listening to the song. I conundrumed myself the other day by trying to choose between a hypothetical ticket to see 1D or McBusted (my early teeeeeeeeeeeeeens) and couldn't come up with a good answer, which I guess means I am already in pretty deep without noticing. Whoops.
(CAN WE TALK ABOUT "THROUGH THE DARK" THO. AND "BETTER THAN WORDS". AND "LITTLE WHITE LIES" (no why u gotta have lyrics like that whyyyyy). AND THE MYSTERIOUS "JUST CAN'T LET HER GO" WHICH I TOTALLY BUY AS A MAROON 5 REJECT IF THAT IS INDEED WHAT IT IS AND IF THERE'S A SNIPPET THAN THERE MUST BE A FULL VERSION DEMO OR NOT. AND LIKE TEN OF THE OTHER SONGS. (BUT REALLY, "THROUGH THE DARK".) ONTD was making fun of tumblr's feels about "Diana" and yes okay teenagers are embarrassing, but honestly I hope it is that song for someone to listen to on repeat when everyone else is asleep and sink into; those songs are important and if they help then they help /someone who has like four.)
Other than that I have nothing much to say; piercings are healing well (bar the weirdness the other day with the pain and the oozing), other embedded foreign metal object working much better than expected, though my uterus is a tricky little bitch so I'm not quite willing to throw a party just yet. Course is still cool but I am bad at revising for 10% tests and my brain likes to freak me out that I will fail all the things. I'm still toying lazily with the idea of cutting all my hair off again (but 3 years growth and styling possibilities! but ease of care and maybe less hair staying on the comb after brushing! womp womp) but my parents have ~forbidden it until after the Family Gathering at Christmas. I bought a really fucking great coat in the summer and it is marvellous, but sadly the weather is currently wetter than it is cold and my umbrella is small for portability and my boots are leaky :(
I've been reading a lot of Avengers-and-adjacent fic and there's been some really great stuff (Off The Record OMG, everyone is beautifully in character and Steve can tell mildly dirty jokes and Loki is complicated and prickly and unfathomable and perfect), and writing...lots of half-fics. Like, I get ideas for scenes or plots, and can write thousands of words of detailed outline, but then writing the actual thing... but then I also get kind of OCD about writing in order even though there are later scenes I'm super stoked to write (set-up is boring yo) so maybe I should just try and overcome that. Tumblr is also convincing me that Lego Marvel is a game I need in my life (along with like, Dragon Age/Assassins Creed/Skyrim/Thor but eh) so that may be a thing.
