Overall character wiki linkSpecific canon point synopsis. Personality:
The thing that comes to light about Castiel, above all else, is he is a being of deep conviction. He has a sense of purpose, and is all about keeping his eyes on his goals; that said, he is also very prone to tunnel vision. He most often will see the big picture, and he will do almost whatever it takes to achieve his said goals. Whatever viewpoint he is taking, or whosever side he chooses, he will stick to his decision with unwavering dedication. He is ready to sacrifice both personally, and on a bigger scale to reach the end game. And as such, he can come across as cold, and callous.
He was created as a “perfect warrior for God”-no room for error or doubt. He doesn’t portray much emotion, as “emotion is the doorway to doubt”, as Castiel said.
But somewhere along the road, Castiel did give way to emotion-he began to feel, something at first he was increasingly uncomfortable with. Faith has always been an integral part of any angel’s being, and Castiel was no exception. And his faith has then just been put in something, or rather, someone other than his Father, which was a notion very hard for Cas to come to terms with. But slowly he did-he put his faith in one person, in Dean Winchester. But that wasn’t the most difficult part. The most difficult part was disobeying orders; it was seen as pretty much murder one upstairs, but Cas went along with what he thought was right, and did anyway. That’s the thing about him. When he commits, he commits, even if he does doubt.
As far as the Winchesters are concerned, he’s learned a great deal from them. But that said, the quirks of humanity still escapes him. Any pop-culture reference is completely lost on him, and he’ll be the first to admit it; (example, when Dean attempts to make a joke in regards to Cas’s search for God, saying “try New Mexico. I hear he’s on a tortilla chip”, Castiel’s deadpan response is “No…He’s not on any flatbread.”; he takes everything verbatim.). To him, humanity is flawed, as he’s seen almost nothing but hurt and misery, during his time on earth (first admitted by him in season 4). But that being said, and knowing that they are all of his Father’s creations, he also saw, especially in Dean, passion and determination. In the end, Castiel began to question his faith when he saw Dean’s belief that fighting for something as simple as freedom, and later all, put more of his faith and conviction into Dean than he previously believed was possible.
He is also somewhat of an idealist, but more in the sense that he his goals are the ideals he works for. Said goals, however, may not always be easily attainable, if at all. He might think them possible, when really, it might actually be a terribly tough feat (the best example of this would to him attempting to find God). Regardless, Castiel will stick through it until the end because, as it was said before, when he commits, he commits. He is capable of extreme leaps of faith, especially with the help of the Winchesters. He has stood with them, fought with them, and had risked everything for them, and died fighting by them, and went on what he thought was a suicide mission (when he and Dean were to go and trap the archangel Raphael, Cas thought that that would be his end). That doesn’t mean he is suicidal. This only shows that we will give and fight with everything he’s got if that is what he believes to be right.
Castiel is more about logic than he is about emotion. What’s also not immediately apparent about him, is that he is actually quite manipulative. That is to say, he isn’t evil, but will use manipulation of words, and at some points emotion in order to reach his end game. He resorts to what works; he has a firm grip on language, and thus is able to find loopholes to work around his orders. When there are no more loopholes available though, he simply resorts to being straightforward about it. It was also seen that he doesn’t really see the point of beating around the bush.
He just concerns himself with the bigger picture, rather than paying attention to details. He is one of those who would believe that a small amount of deaths, even if it’s actually a town, is necessary if it will help save the world. That’s the thing about him, he does what is necessary, and “considers the needs of many before the needs of few”. Which is why he doesn’t understand when Dean and Sam try and save small towns in the approaching Apocalypse-going back to how heavily he relies on logic, these actions, to him, completely defy logic. That’s the thing, he doesn’t think in humanistic terms, instead heavily focusing on results, what would win the war, or gain them the upper hand.
Being used to suppressing his emotion, it’s still hard for Castiel, even around the Winchesters, to display it. His voice is a pretty low octave, and is almost always in monotone. He really lacks a sense of humor; mainly because most of the human humor escapes him. One of the few emotions that was really seen from him is excessive anger, when he was pushed past his breaking point. Castiel is extremely loyal, but it’s the question of gaining that loyalty that is an extremely hard feat. It takes time for the bond to form, and even longer for it to strengthen. But when it does, Cas is prepared to go to great lengths to support his ally.
Another thing about Castiel is that he really has no use or patience for social graces. If something needs to be said, he’ll say it; bluntly. No sugar coating, no beating around the bush. He isn’t concerned about euphemisms, or making bad news seem better; he sees no point and logic in that, and therefore, will not do so. He is impatient, and thus tries to be efficient and waste as little time as possible to get things done.
Castiel isn’t exactly nice and pleasant. He doesn’t make the effort to be. He is deadpan and blunt, at times impatient, and dismissive. He doesn’t care what anyone thinks of him. But he is extremely loyal and goal-bound, with a strong sense of belief and faith in what’s right and he will stand by that until the end.
Powers & Abilities: (You may link to a wiki or fansite, but at the least please provide a list here of your character's abilities and a short description of each ability)
As an angel, there is a broad range of what Castiel can do. Based on his canon point, he has all his powers back. A running list of said abilities is:
- Teleportation/(time travel): we see this power most often in the series. He can come and go whenever he pleases, and can go wherever he pleases. His appearance and disappearance are both accompanied by the faint sound of fings. He can not only go wherever but also whenever. Meaning, he can also skip through time. To note though, this ability takes quite the big toll on him, as seen when he not only carries himself back in time, but Dean and Sam, in season5, episode 19.
- Mind Reading/ Telekinesis-- Cas can read minds, as hinted in the scene when Cupid tells Castiel to read his mind to see if he’s lying about the deaths in a town the Winchesters were investigating. He can also appear in dreams, and communicate through dreams, as seen on numerous occasions, when he appeared before Dean in his dream. Also, like all angels, Castiel can move objects and people with his mind; like something as small as a bolt screw, which later he used to help him get out of a ring of Holy fire, by mentally unscrewing a pipe, making it his a demon and then using said demon as a board walk over the flames.
- Enochian sigils- Castiel, being an angel, shares the knowledge of heaven, that includes the use of its magic. He can speak and write in Enochian, and thus cast ancient spells, and “banish” angels; he carved into the Wincehster’s ribs Enochian sigils to hide them from all angels and demons. He also used an ancient spell to locate Anna, when she traveled back in time to kill the boy’s parents.
- Smiting/Combat-as a warrior of God, Castiel can do plenty of things, combat wise. He can smite demons, which is an ‘angelic ‘way of saying he can kill them, or even, seen later in season 6, he can cast a large-scale, energy-wave like power surge, to cover a larger area, rather then making his palm come in conact with the forehead in order to smite. He is also more than proficient with his Angel’s blade, the only weapon capable of killing an angel. He was seen, on numerous occasions, to be able to use it very well. He also was seen to have excellent combat skills in that sense. However, the more “modern”, and human weapons, like a gun, he was never seen using, and as of now, knows next to none about one.
- As far as human needs are concerned, Castiel has no need for them; has no need for food or drink (as recalled by his vessel Jimmy Novak, who commented on how he hasn’t eaten for months). In order for Castiel to get drunk, he, in his own words, needs to actually “drink a liquor store”.
- Healing/Resurrection: from his canon point, Castiel was given “new and improved” powers, that means, he can not only heal everything, but also actually bring someone back. Like he did with Bobby in ‘Swan Song’.
For angel weaknesses…well, there aren’t many, but nonetheless, they exist. He is not invulnerable. He can be hurt and killed by another angel blade, certain Enochian sigils written on a wall in blood can send him “away” for a small while, hindering him, some enochian sigils can completely keep an angel out or in a building, and although not seen, it is known that Holy fire is extremely painful to the angels, and will destroy them in they step over the flame. Holy oil is basically oil in Jerusalem, as mentioned by Cas.
What items will they be bringing with them to Discedo? Castiel would probably only have his angel’s blade. It doesn’t have really any magical power, other than it can kill another angel. So, his angel blade and the clothes on his back: a tan overcoat, a button down white shirt, a messily done tie, a black suit.

Castiel sat on a bench, in some park. It didn’t matter to him where he was. He just needed…a moment to think. It wasn’t often that he actually stopped and reflected upon all he’s done.
But now he doubted. And with doubt came contemplation…
Before, it was all simple. He would go “seek Revelation” and follow the orders he received. All clear and simple. But it all changed when he met the Winchesters. They taught him to doubt, to question the faith that he used to so blindly follow.
A breeze passed by, and Castiel raised his gaze upwards, at the sky. I believed in you…. The thought again passed through his mind, as he averted his gaze back as his hand, lacing his fingers together.
First, he started to question his orders. That he owed to Dean. After that initial questioning of faith, one thing led to another. Before he knew it, he rebelled; he fell because his faith has shifted from the “upstairs”’ orders, (which in the end he wrongly thought to come from his Father himself), to believing in the Winchesters.
And after that? He made it one of his topmost priorities to assist them. For whatever reason it was; he didn’t really know all too well himself. It was what he believed in. And that simple feeling was enough for him. Dean seemed adamant, determined.
First, he tried to help him to prevent the Apocalypse. That was the point of no return for him. When he banished Zachariah, and revealed to Dean the last seal. When he thought he died by the hand of Raphael. Only to be brought back by his Father.
But then Lucifer sprung from his cage. And so, the Apocalypse started.
And all this time, Castiel fought by the Winchester’s side. He tried to find God. Oh he tried. But when the brothers managed to talk to Joshua, who told them that God just…doesn’t care…
Castiel inhaled, but his face remained as stoic as ever. But his forehead creased slightly, as he briefly raised his gaze up again. Never before, in his long, long life, had he felt this lost. What was he supposed to do now?
Of course, there was still the issue with Lucifer, and keeping Dean from agreeing to become Michael’s vessel, and thus keeping a good population of the world alive. But…Castiel was fresh out of ideas. At least for the moment.
Just keep fighting. And even though he, at the moment, was completely tired of hoping his father would actually hear him, there was still hope. Hope that he would rather not admit to right now, in his current bitter state, but hope that won’t go away.
Castiel took another inhale. What did Dean usually do? Drink? The angel hung his head. Well, then better go find a liquor store. He might just drink it all.
And with a whisper of wings, he’s gone.

[The feed flickers on. At first, there’s just static, white and black lines against the screen, even something akin to faint ringing. Then the picture finally focuses, showing a man, donning a tan overcoat one size too big, and giving the device one perplexed stare.
A head tilt.] …I…I don’t understand. [There is a slight beep in the background, and he gives his communicator a confused, questioning look.]
[A blink.] Dean? Can you hear me?
I…don’t recognize this place. [A beat, as he lifts his head up, giving the area a brief glance around. A crease in his forehead.]…And my mojo is gone again...
[A slight bit angrier now.] Where am I?
…If anyone is seeing this, I would appreciate information on my location. [And without further words, he shuts the feed off, but for a few seconds after the video ends, there are still audible beeps and button presses, until finally, everything goes quiet.]
