Just finished watching Fight Club again for about the dozenth time. Actually I hadn't seen the movie since it came out, I think I was about eleven. I wasn't even planning on watching it, it just happened. I was flipping through the channels and my fingers seemed to stop right on it, lingered on the button the whole time, but somehow my consumed ( Read more... )

Sheer genius in fact!

i daresay TT is the greatest comedy flick EVAH & that will be bigger than 'the princess bride' for quotables, and THAT is saying something...tho my pals Kramer and Tater can still quote THAT ENTIRE movie to me. so we shall see. ;) i DO adore Princess Bride, but TT is a worthy successor for the "most quoted film ever" award. so - Hooray for that!

Loved the line you picked. Very "black" in tone. *lol* ;) I liked the following too tho:

"I'm sorry a dingo ate your baby!" ;):D;)
"Hot damn." *cue cute Downey hip swivel pop-and-lock* (grin)
"Pop the breaks, kid. That man's a national treasure."
"Hey. Just cuz it's the theme song, don't mean it not true."

Priceless! ;) YAY! :) *jumps at chance to get the dvd release*

But hey is it just me or did Alpa Chino and Lazarus/Osiris get all the best lines? NOT that i mind. ;) And did you see the fake trailers at the beginnning. Satan's Alley had some Spiderman on Iron Man monk action and it was tres hilarious. tho i really think they should make that movie a reality, cuz i would totally go and see it! *grin*

OMG Yes, this movie is SOO quptable. Almost everyline that came out of RDJ's moutht was absolutely hysterical. It almost makes me miss the character, I want to see more of him :(...lol

And I love that exchange between Osiris and Alpa Chino in the jungle where AC is yelling at him and they're going back and forth.Even though I'd seen it a dozen times all ready during commercials (all of which I laughed) I still cracked up when i saw it in theatres. HOW DO SOME PEOPLE NOT LIKE THIS MOVIE, ITS SO QUAOTBLE AND FUNNY?

I love how you pointed out the "cute Downey hip swivel pop-and-lock". I noticed that too, and it makes go gah! He's so hot even as a black man, or as he likes to call it "a beautiful black man" hehe. He's too cute.

The trailers were awesome, and I think I'me being completely objective though when I say that the SA one was THE funniest one. Tobey McGuire and and hot/blonde RDJ...too much to handle. They should at least do a little like ten minute mini film spoof, because I now everyone is dying for more, hahaha

And though I cuaght the IM/SM thing, it remninded me most of Wonder Boys (have you seen it? Its a must see and you'll know what I mean ;))

Hottest monk ever.....

i toally saw WB like a hundred times over! Great movie. (now tho, it's more for the downey-heavy scenes only.) terry crabtree FTW in any case! ;) he was adorably tousled throughout. especially when in bed with charles or out in the rain with the blue boxers and robe on. waaaaat? *innocent look* A wet Downey is a HAWT Downey IMHO. ;) So, there!

I think the reason I pointed out the pop-lock thing is cuz he has such a lithe panther way of moving that it's hard for me NOT to notice, when he does something deliberate or not so deliberate (hence the shop scene in IM, when he blows up the light and the door and the windows of his sanctuary with one repulsor-ed hand or in Chaplin when he does that ballet dance in front of his brother to prove to him that talkies were NOT the way to go in films).

But - yeah. *happy sigh* I don't like guys who just flump around lackadasically. i instead like guys with poise and a self-awareness that few men seem to possess, particuarly to downey's nth degree. i think johnny depp may be the only other one of that kind of person. but johnny usually does that solely for his actual roles and turns it off in RL and interviews, whereas robert does/has it during both RL AND his work.

SA? Totally agree. Totally was the best one EVAH. ;) I'd love o see a viral video of THAT! NOT that seeing Rob beat up Jack wasn't funny enough or anything (the MTV Award spoof they did earlier this year), but i don't think i woulda paid to see it. I WOULD have paid to see SA done like that tho. *super grin* ;)

Osiris and Alpa Chino? They were the two best things in the film proper, hands down! They acted like an old married couple. It was just so hilariously tet-a-tet with them, that it was like Lucy and Ethel OR Lucy and Ricky going at it. ;) Priceless.

OMG! LUV your icon BTW. :) Sting, Hugh J, and Rob? The perfect three-person gang, if ever there was one! :) and they all look so happy and cute too. awesome! (although i am kinda gettiing the willies cuz hugh and sting are both "towering over" rob. but - that's ok really, cuz i love my shiny "wittle" robert anyway, for he's the bestest! and his lovely, outgoing, rogue-ish personality and uuber smexiness easily makes up & over-compensates for the scant two or three inches of difference. :)

So - you looking foward to 'The Soloist' yet? ;)

~Sharma

PS Wonder Boy icon for the win. ;) Tousled hair, grinning mouth, and with the bedroom eyes of squinty liquiid chocolate awesomeness? check. check. and checkeroony! ;)

Ooh I think a Downey any way at all is always HOTT!

and yes! I was just watching a little video on youtube on Chaplin and I saw the "ballet" scene again and I was like, gah, i love it. He was SOO FANTASTIC in that role. I remember thinking WOW he's really become him, he's really prepared so well for this he is getting these things down pat. I still think he was completely robbed of the the Oscar. I don't know maybe I'm wrong but I think that maybe if the movie had come out in more recent years that he could have definitely taken it home.

And I defeinitely know what you mean about RDJ's self-awareness and how it comes out on film and RL. I study a lot of acting and films and watching a movie sometimes it's like these actors noadays (this kind of makes me angry because I'm trying to act myself) they get these parts because they're attractive and the girls/guys like them, but their personality is complete bleh and they always do the same type of roles-nothing risque. This is what I LOVE so much about RDJ. He is a REAL actor. He's not about the bull crap. He's acting because he loves it and he doesn't care what the film asks of him if he's interested because he's willing to do it. And you can tell he's really serious about it, he doesn't go about just doing what the director says, but he improvises and thinks of things on his own that can make his role better. He's brilliant because that is what acting is really about, or at least should be. Though he also comes out great because he is just SOO charismatic, I think this is one of the reasons why he's been able to bounce back from the hard times so much, people are so drawn by his personality that they're willing to root for him no matter what. That's not something that everyone has, and to me that's just what makes him all that more special, I LOVE THIS MAN! he's so great, I could go on and on. And yeah I used to like Johnny Depp back in the late 90's, back when people used to ask me who he was and I'd respond with "the guy from edward scissor hands"...I can't believe how much everyone loves him now, I think its great, but I know what you mean about the interviews, he almost seems shy to me or something and its not always as fun to watch unless you're a die hard fan.

I can't wait for the TT DVD. I'm sure its going to have LOTS of goodies, or at least I hope! Even the commentrary alone I'm sure will be worth it. They've done so much for this movie (which is why it makes me :( that it didnt do too well in theatres) with the sites and the ROM thing and all that, I'm sure they're going to have a lot of good features in the DVD...and OMG is it September yet? Is it time for me to be glued to me tv for days yet? I'm counting down the days until IM comes out on DVD, I'm terribly excited ! :D

Hehe, and thanks about the icon. I didn't realize that i'd actually had this picure FOREVER from back when I used to like HJ YEARS ago. I always loved that pic, and RDJ just looks so happy and HOT laughing like that and though I usually do like tall guys, I let it go with Robert because he's just that awesome :). I'm just sad that I don't have the magazine where it came from because all the pics from that photo shoot are amazing (let me know if you don't have them I'll send them to you ;)..)

I've been looking forward to 'the soloist' since I heard about it. I'm excited because its getting the Oscar buzz and I really hope Robert gets some recognition for that again. I'm sure its going to be fantastic, I like Jamie Foxx too so I already know the acting is going to be top notch. WHEN ARE WE GETTING A TRAILER?! That needs to be done sooon. I can't wait to see it and RDJ looks HOT in that too, but then again when does he not? :D

Have you seen Chances Are? I saw it recently on Lifetime. It was a fun film and young Robert looked so cute in it, even my cousin (who refuses to like anything I like-annoying) was like "No, them together? He's much too cute for her" It made me :D, hehe.

Oh and that icon...mmm...must go buy Wonder Boys and watch it again and again NOW

i know! he was sooooo robbed! :( i mean al HAS done great stuff and all, but scent of a woman was NOT the best he's done. and at the time, chaplin was the most obviously prestigious, oscar-worthy work that rdj had done. but that could've been why he didn't get it.

BTW, I LOOOVE Chances Are! I think it has a very new age/buddhist concept that was ahead of its time, & was well-handled too. BUT - it was prolly a bit too syrupy for real oscar contention, which sux for the oscar voters but NOT the movie, cuz i thought it deserved kudos anyway. Another great, Oscar-worthy Downey performance was in 1993's Heart and Souls.

have you seen it? it's the one where four spirits possess thomas (downey) so that he can help them fulfill their last wishes so they can move on to their next lives and be at peace. downey mimic'd his co-stars voices and movements and attitudes to within an inch of his life to project the differences between just him and his body when he was sharing it with another soul (2 were women, 2 were men).

This film and Chaplin were prolly his two biggest EARLY physical/body-as-story roles, with his roles in Iron Man and Tropic Thunder serving as the most recent examples of such an RDJ acting concept.

Unfortunately, like Chances Are, Heart & Souls was a bit too sweet (and madcap) for the voters to accept any part of it for oscar contention, a damned shame. :( he was robbed of an oscar for zodiac & kiss kiss bang bang too. i seriously think that he was shafted because unlike the world of normal people, oscar voters always hold your past against you. and THAT is one of the most biased reasons EVAH to use to deny someone. & yet, i've seen it done to others as well, Johnny Depp being the other reformed bad boy example. :(

Hopefully, that stigma will all change now, with The Soloist netting oscar noms/oscars for BOTH Downey & Foxx.

...tho I don't know if it'll happen for BOTH of them, cuz Jackman and Kidman are back in the monster period epic territory, called Australia. AND it's opening the same day as The Soloist (Nov. 21), as is the teen vamp drama called Twilight, which should NOT be oscar bait, but will maybe prevent The Soloist from opening at Number 1 or 2 in the Box Office races.

I still HOPE that this kinda thing doesn't happen. *crosses fingers* The TS trailer will be out next month (Sept), tho they might wait as long as Oct, as it IS closer to the actual release date & would prolly be on theatre-going minds more fully.

And yes I too love Jamie. I even liked him on The Jaime Foxx Show, which was on waaay back in the day. I DO think he does better in dramas & bio-pics tho.

but yeah. onto happier RDJ things: a happy, laughing rdj is my fave rdj too. ;) Squinty Eyes & a head turn to the right side for the win! cuz he's soooo arorable when he laughs. (i don't know if you noticed that, but he DOES frequently duck his head slighty and turn it to his right when he laughs. look at the april/may 2008 interviws with letterman, leno, & kimmel ANNND the august 2008 interviews with leno and craig ferguson for proof.) ;) so apparenly the pop lock hip swivel isn't the only thing i've made a note of. My Downey obses...erm...INTEREST knows no bounds. ;)

And you're right. Rob is ALWAYS HAWT, both look- & personality-wise! the perfect combo. YUUUUMY! :)

OOOO there's more crouching rdj, hidden hugh/sting pics?! MUST. HAVE. THEM. ALL. Pretty please, with choccy RDJ clones on top? ;) my email is orangetabby2003@yahoo.com.

So - are you looking forward to Sherlock Holmes? Tho it is to be directed by Guy Ritchie (aka Mr. Madonna), i think he may still do a decent job, esp. cuz Downey is in it. i just hope it doesn't turn into another Snatch, where you simply couldn't understand wat anyone was saying, not even when it was Brad Pitt. wat are YOUR thoughts?

~your pal, Sharma

PS Glad you like my WB icon. Now, you must go out & actually get WB on dvd. OR ELSE! mwah-hahahahaaaa. >;) That way you too can have a blue-boxered, tousled-haired, geek-chic Downey Jr. of your very own. ;)

took me too long :( andi88 September 2 2008, 23:03:08 UTC
Hey Sharma!
Oh man I'm so sorry it took me so long to respond to your wonderful message, I would never ignore such interesting Downey talk, especially from a friend :). I just started uni last MOnday and this past week has been terribly hectic. I guess I was bumming around too much this past summer because getting back into the rhythm of things has been really tiring.

Anyways, that's enough excuses from. Lets start from the beggining. YES! I absolutely have seen Hearts and Souls! I LOVE that movie. It was so much fun to watch and you're right RDJ did amazing as far as physical acting in that movie. The scene where he jumps across the table during the meeting in the beginning comes to mind, classic movie. And I also loved, loved, loved when the singer's 'soul' went into his body and he had to sing in fron of that huge audience. He has such a beautiful voice, and when the african-american woman (I can't remember her name, she was on Desperate Housewives a few seasons ago though, I don't know if you watch that)went into his body, THAT was absolutely hilarious. Fantastic movie, I'm sad I don't own it.

I used to love Hugh Jackman back in the day (I even met him once...)so I'm really happy about the positive buzz Australia is also getting. I'm sure The Soloist will get some nods too, and by God if RDJ doesn't score at least a nomination for THIS movie, I'll hunt those Oscar jack-buckets down! I've been watching the Oscars (religiously) for too many years now to not know exactly who/or what kind of performance is going to get nominated. Though Johnny Depp's surprised me a few years back with POTC, I saw it as a major step forward for the Academy. HOWEVER, the Academy is notorious for giving away awards not necessarily for the BEST performance but because they felt it was 'due' (this is why Pacino won for Scent). That angers me so much, and its what made the year LOTR so unenjoyable for me. These past few years, I've guess the winners even before the show.

And why is comedy not considered 'good acting'? HELLO?! Studying acting myself I've found (at least for me) that comedy can be JUST as hard as drama, sometimes even harder. it is not as easy IMO to make someone laugh as it is to draw tears or anger or sadness from them, those are there to be drawn, laughter is not something you can honestly control. Did I just make any sense? Am I truley loosing it? Please let me know....

With these three amazing performance from RDJ this year, I'll be damned if he gets no recognition, I'd lose serious respect (though I've already lost lots) for the Academy.

As far as the box-office, I wouldn't worry too much about that. RDJ has proven with IM that he can open big. This movie is not really about him, or his character too much even, its a biopic and most of all its an Oscar contender, which pretty much, to me, over-takes whatever may happen in the theatres. Most Oscar nominated movies don't even do that well until after the awards. (My cousin was planning on dragging me watch Twilight-she even made me read the book, though its not really my cup of tea- but I think I'll have to find a way to make some last minute changes ;)

And OMG, thank you! I have too noticed that he does the head turn slightly down and to the right, sometimes acompanied by a slap of the knee when he laughs, IT IS SO CUTE! Really though, everything he does is absolutely amazing, he just gets better and better to me. That's the one thing I love so much about RDJ, he always seems to play it so cool when he's being interviewed (though honeslty I don't think he pretends, I think he IS just plain cool) that when he does laugh it looks just so genuine, like he's really having fun. it always puts a big smile on my face :D.

Had to divide it into two parts....sorry andi88 September 2 2008, 23:04:01 UTC
I have to admit I'm a bit sketchy on Holmes. Guy Ritchie is a decent director but I don't believe he's ever done a major movie like this appears to be, and that worries me. I'm afraid that the changes they're thinking of making to the 'classic holmes' portrayel may disuade the broader audience from liking it- that and for some reason I keep getting Van Helsing vibes everytime I think of it (another HJ thing, have you seen it? Awful movie IMO). That and I really hope RDJ doesn't loose his appeal by doing another franchise movie along with IM, BUT as I keep having to remind myself this is Mr. Robert Downey Jr were talking about and I really think at this point that he's smart enough to not involve himself or make the protect he is involved with come out anything but GREAT.

I'm thinking as soon as I get my next paycheck I'll be making my way to Movie Stop to fill up my cart with lots and lots of DVDs (IM Sept 30th and Chaplin 15th year anniversary edition a few weeks later woo hoo!!!!!)

BTW before I forget, have you seen the short film he did with Tim Roth (who I also think is just magnificent) and Amanda Peet, 'Whatever We Do'? Its a MUST see. It's only like 23 mins long, but OMG GOOD SCENES IN IT!. The pool scene alone I rewinded oh about some 8000 times. here:
http://content.foxsearchlight.com/searchlab/node/1480 Good Times

Happy to share in fun RDJ-filled convesation :)
-Andrea

PS, I'll be sending you those pics now, sorry about that *runsandhides*

PPS, am I the only one who just loves how this started out as a short commented and has evolved to this? :D

DUDE! ANDREA! I was just going to ask YOU that question. Great minds think alike, I suppose. ;) Anyhoo - Whatever We Do was both hilarious & HOTT! ;) And Downey looked totally faboo in them colorful swim trunks. And his cannonball?! Don't even get me STARTED on his cannonball! ;) Boy, would I have liked to be a fly on THAT house's wall! I also loved the part before that, when he, in a quite blased-like manner, pushed that guy into the pool WHILE also drinking a margarita mix (fake as it was) straight from a BLENDER. serioudly. that man IS teh awesomest thing on the planet. *dies a million combustion-like deaths over* ;)

And let's see. wat else? ;) i just started uni recently as well, so no worries there. i totally understand your delay. i'm just thankful you had the time to answer ne AT ALL. :) *huggles*

heart and souls tho? The scene where he jumps on and slides across the table during the meeting near the beginning? the one that you mentioned? THAT is my fave scne of the whole freaking' film! *lol* And indeed he does have a very beautiful singing voice, a la a bit of Joe Cocker mixed with a pinch of Eric Clapton or somesuch similar. on that note? do you have his CD? it's called the futurist and was released in mid-2004. I have it, if you want me to upload it for you and are curious at all. the whole CD's only about 98 MB in total, and it's got a direct first-CD-to-computer-transfer rip sound quality to it. but - yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah. *happy sigh* he can simply read the phone book to me any day of the week and i'd be satisfied. ;)

anyhoo, you ever seen 1969? it was made in like 1988 and he was adorable in it. he had an almost-black shaggy bowl cut and hip hugging jeans and a shaaarp black vest. ;) in the film, he played one of the two main characters (ralph karr). kiefer sutherland was the other one (scott denny). they played best buds that were in college together & who were both trying to stay out of a war ('Nam) they didn't believe in.

XXX

((Official Plot: They live in a stuffy, upper-middle class suburban town in Maryland at the offset of the Vietnam War, and are both in college. While Scott's brother Alden enlists, he and Ralph are outspoken in their opposition to the war. Scott's attitude alienates him from his father Cliff and he and Ralph decide to spend the summer on the road, living out of their van and experiencing all the freedom the counterculture has to offer. Various events lead them back to town where they learn of the death of Alden. This event proves to be the catalyst needed to bridge the gap between father and son and enlightens them both to the true cost of the war.))

XXX

Despite it looking kinda tv movie-ish from the outset, it really is a great film. and if you haven't already checked it out, i really think you should. :) if only for the sight of vintage, possibly gap-toothed downey and baby!Ryder...since Winona Ryder actually plays robert's little sis in it. ;)

The Academy? OOOOOH how I LOATHE them. :( They dissed Johnny Depp THREE separate times! And Robert once and then twice (i still say he should have gotten SOMETHING for his zodiac performance as paul avery. exactly like both his tony and kirk, his avery was made of ... :: in a Jack Black as an announcer voice :: ... "Sheer GENIUS!"

Alas tho. I can only buy IM, for I am broker than a greyhound about to be put down. you did say a LOT of dvds tho, yet you only named two, those being Iron Man and Chaplin? may i ask which others you might be getting? TheDarkKnight? ;) *lol* so, wat else besides THOSE three? *grin* ...

The BEST news though is that THE SOLOIST TRAILER has finally come out! Have you seen it? I'm sure you have, but if not its at thesoloistmovie.com, I even made some screen caps of it and posted them on the RDJ LJ here: http://community.livejournal.com/robertdowney_jr/155906.html#cutid1.
I cannot wait for this movie, it looks to be AMAZING. Can you believe it? I superhero blockbuster, a hit comedy, and an oscar contending drama, all in one year? Wow, this is definitely the year of Downey, though i'm sure he's probably going to have a lot more like this (especially in 2010 when both holmes and IM 2 come out, though that does mean one whole year with no new movies :( )
My scholarship money comes in the mail soon and I'm hoping to treat myself by using a little bit of it to buy Ally McBeal on DVD from the UK (only if I get and A on my first Genetics exam though, I'm neurotic like that....). I REALLY can't wait for that. I haven't seen that show in years, and I was watching some clips of it youtube and oh man, what a GREAT show. I absolutely love, and I cannot wait to be able to watch it again, especially season 4 of course ;). I'm hoping to get my friend into too.
On a last note. I went all over the city this weekend looking to buy a Robbie Williams cd (do you like him? I just bought my first cd of his and I love it, he reminds me of Robert for some reason.....). Anyways I couldn't find it anywhere, before comopletely giving up though I stopped at like 8:50pm at Sound Exchange, I don't know if they have those up where you live but its a huge music store where you can buy and sell cds. I FINALLY found it there, but I was so astounded by the store, as I always am everytime I go because of its HUGE collection of cds, that I started to randomly look through for cds I know I normally wouldn't find, and guess what I found? The Futurist! I'n its original cardboard box and everything! SCORE! So of course, that is must a have finally. YAY! :D Yup, that whole story all for that.

-Happpy to keep writing
Andrea

BTW HJ's hair in Van Helsing, BLEH! It was real too, and even as a huge fan back then I thought it was awful. And yes, Howard did go FULL RETARD, lol. I love it, so quoatable, so great! Vampires though...a year ago I would have agreed but after some major begging my cousin finally got me to watch Buffy theVampire Slayer last year, and...yeah I saw the whole series *blush*andilikedit*. Good times.

i too had to spread this into two entries. *sigh* ;)

... A head's up to you tho! And it's been a "Bad news. Good news." sort of day so far, so it looks like I'm gonna continue that trend.

The BAD news? There is no feature-length commentary for IM, 'cuz Paramount is a stupid studio and forgot to set up time and place for a session of that to take place.

The GOOD news? Favreau did a LIVE commentary this past weekend in an L.A. area theatre in front of hundreds of special ticketholders, an event which someONE named curls actually recorded AND then uploaded onto the Net. Go here to get a copy of the proceedings from start to finish and don't forget to thank her as well. :) the links to it are over here in this entry, and are via MU or Mediafire. BUT - it IS audio-only: http://community.livejournal.com/robertdowney_jr/152875.html.

actual VID clips of this event are woefully few and far between, but over here, http://laist.com/2008/09/08/favreau_downey_jr_aero_theatre.php, there is 1 pic and then 5 mini-vids in a row. they're all pretty good quality. and guess who decided to crash jon's previously solo gig? ;) i'll give you three guesses and two of them don't count. ;)

an altenate site, http://www.wtfgamer.com/, has three VIDS. The first shows jon and his rambling yet cute and funny introductory speech: http://wtfgamer.com/2008/09/07/iron-man-directorstar-commentary-introduction.aspx. the other two cover the entire impromptu POST-movie-and-running-commentary Q&A session: http://wtfgamer.com/2008/09/07/favreau-and-downey-jr-qa-1.aspx and http://wtfgamer.com/2008/09/07/favreau-and-downey-jr-qa-2.aspx.

Anyhoo, ENJOY! ;) i know i did. :)

as for the pics? got them all a-ok. they were all just sooooo adorable! :) *squees with residual delight* so - THANK YOU! *huggles you like whoooa*

as for Van Helsing? HJ's hair in that alone could've killed any monster in the world cuz it was such an eyesore. i wonder if it was a wig tho? I've actually see worse films tho, i think. dracula for one. howard the duck for another. and underworld for a third. wat? vampires are overrated. and howard was just STOOPID. I do believe he went full retard. and you NEVER EVER go FULL retard! *lol*

aside from 1969 tho, have you seen the cuteness that was downey in 1987's "the pick-up artist." BUT, unlike 1969, this is definitely a cheeze-tastically weird-bad film, BUT if you're desperate for some early downey action you can't go wrong with Jack Jericho. ;) i also recc 1997's Two Girls and a Guy. ;) it's like a riddle within a play within a movie or something, and it's 'to die for' material, spread on top with a liberal dash of weird, but tasty, awesome-McSauce-ness! ;););)

~your pal,
Sharma

P.S. NO! You are totally NOT the only one who loves the way that our convo has evolved. 'Cuz I think it's a swanky-neato-coolisimo developement too! Hooray! :) And I hope it doesn't let up either. :)

looks like three times is the charm this time, mate. ;)

PPS In MORE Bad News Good News fashion...

Although Rob WAS slated to host the season primiere of SNL this month, they (TPTB) apparently gave that plum position and set of reigns to Michael Phelps, who has gotta be the Boy Wonder to Downey's gritty Batman, but who also has NO sense of comic timing wat so ever. *unhappy sigh* Ah well. Hates on SNL just a little bit. :(

...Which leads me to the hopefully still good news......

They slated him for the second episode instead (a measely 1-week difference), which means that come 11:29 PM on the Saturday night of September 20, 2008, on NBC, there may be Downey on that there set of skits and tricks. So - stay tuned!!! ;) I dunno if you knew but he was on that show as a REGULAR for a whole YEAR back in the mid-80's... ;)

I just have so much fun in these conversations of one of my favorite topics, I just had to say that....Lets see 1969? Hmm, I've heard of it but I haven't seen it...yet. it shall definitely be the next rental for me at Blockbuster. Thanks for that! I though I was running out of movies to watch with RDJ in which he starred in but young shaggy haired Robert? I'm soooo there! ;D
Haha I did say LOTS of DVDs didn't I? I don't know what i was thinking, I may have been thinking movies. Like IM later this month, then Chaplin, and then The Soloist comes out in Nov, and then hopefully soon after TT on DVD! (BTW my cousin actually volunteered to go see the movie with me again, woo hooo!!!) I've been counting down the days now, espcially after listenning to that commentary! Oh man i can't wait to get the DVD and sync the video and audio together so that I can see exactly what they were talking about, I had to mostly work on memory. After listening to that commentary I'm desperately yearning to see IM again, oh man that movie to me is just BEYOND perfect, en every way. It's what started my profound love for RDJ this past April and it what makes me :). I can't believe I ever wanted to be an actor before and wasn't completely aware of his amazing talents (though I did know him from AM, I hadn't 'stalked' until now ;). Talking about acting, the coolest thing happened in my theatre class that I forgot to mention last time. On the first day of class the teacher was explaining to us how the class is supposed to be more of a study of theatre rather than actual acting, though he did want us to do a small skit at the end of the semester. He was telling us not to be nervous about it because he didn't expect us to be "the next Robert Downy Jr or Meryl Streep". After he said I did a little internal freak out and then proceeded to stop listening for the next five minutes after while I had little day dreams, I probably looked ridiculous in the back of the classroom with a big smile plastered on my face :D.
I'm glad you got the pics okay and enojyed them, hehe, some of my favorites, I'm just sad I don't have the actual magazine :(, that would be fantastic. And I have seen The Pick-Up Artist and Two Girls and A Guy and enjoyed both....relatively. Of course I'll enjoy anything RDJ is in, but yeah TPUA was a little, meh, but it was watchable enough, and it had it nice little cheesy romantic part at the end. Plus I did enjoy watching RDJ in a pre-straight teeth flick 8D, lol. When did that get fixed anyways, and how was it done so fast?! Its cute though, its nice to know the man was normal at once point and not as physically perfect as he seems today :D. Oh and TGAAG? One word: HOT!!! OMG, that scene! I think just about everyone knows what 'the scene' is if they're a fan of his, even without having seen the movie. Oh man, I just wish I had the NC17 VHS version, wonder what that one looks like........
Man more bad news though, as I'm sure you've heard :(. No more RDJ on SNL this week either, instead James Franco is going to be on this week. Many people say it's because he will be in London doing press for TT. On tvguide.com it says he's scheduled for the 27th, but I'm not holding my breathe for that either. I won't get excited over it anymore until I see SNL officially annouce it.

Re: wooo new trailers and such pt 2 andi88 September 16 2008, 02:14:48 UTC

Good times.

you, buffy nutter! you! :( johnsheppardluv September 16 2008, 15:49:58 UTC

*lol* just joking. ;) cuz that's definitely a-ok. i actually kinda like buffy myself, mainly cuz it was NOT vamps-r-us 24/7. they DID have OTHER creatures of the nite and day to battle too...like witches and warlocks and werewolves oh my! ;) Oz (bf to willow at one point) was wat you would call the cutest buffyverse thing EVAH! ;)

luved your TS trailer caps. i am going to possibly use one for me dt pic, cuz they're just all tooo pretty not to wanna look at 24/7 on my screen. we shall see when i ACTUALLY switch tho. ;) cuz i ALREADY have a humdinger of an rdj pic fulfilling that position. it's an HD copy of the one where he's got the purple and gray suit on with the purple shirt, and is leaning on Val Kilmer. it's from during a primere for KKBB.

i have it set up so that his face is the only thing showing...instead of the center or tile setting, i used stretch, which in turn gave me RDJ's neck, face/head, and the top of his torso and shoulders, plus the pointer finger of the hand that's hanging over val's shoulder (tho you do NOT actually SEE Val's shoulder) in the lower right hand corner of my screen. perfect placement if ever i saw some! ;)

i sent you the pic in any case.

robbie williams, eh? i liked him for a while in the late 90s...but didn't he turn a bit mean or braggerty at some point? or maybe that was just the "rag" papers talking? that kind of DOES happen quite a lot. they report something as true when it really isn't at all. *sad sigh* and if i recall, robbie does SORTA sound downey-esque. i still say you should sample some eric clapton (for his melody & lightness of voice) and joe cocker (for his raspy-ness) to see wat I'm talking about. amazon.com even has 30 second audio clips of most of their CDs that you can listen to, without paying even a penny to do it.

But, you found the futurist in hard copy...and WITH the cardboard cover too?! LUCKY! (and you weren't even looking for it either...) now, THAT is a double shot of cool! :) i've been trying for a while to get it in hard copy at a store around here. unfortunately, since he just released the one album, most don't even have a downey jr. section-seperation label. a damn shame if you ask me...and one that makes the CD itself harder to find...anyway, glad you found robbie too. and yes, to me anyway, i think, much like rob has, robbie has also mellowed with age, ergo i like him again. (tho, to be fair, i have ALWAYS and STILL do like/love me some RDJ.)

as for Sound Exchange? never heard of it. we have Soundscan (no one goes there) and Plan(et) 9 is the ONLY store that you can both sell and buy cds from, and they usually don't give you that much either.

On a semi-related (in so far that it IS RDJ-related. *lol*) note...not that I think this will occur (tho i want it to muchly), but I really think that PEOPLE magazine should pick Robert for their annual semi-vapid, yet oh-so-very eye-catching Sexiest Man Alive issue this year. ESPECIALLY since it would be a actually inspired choice, (and 'cuz he really did HAVE a BIIIG year this uyear and it's not even really over yet. Yay for that tho!) :) but yeah it could be easily seen as a true inspired choice, as opposed to what they would be doing by picking either boy george or boy brad for a THIRD time. :( it would also be a bit like them sending him goodwill of a sort, ESPECIALLY cuz they were the ones who mostly and most extensively herranged and mutilated him back in the day for the you-know-wat...ya know?

i will miss seeing RDJ a whole lot nxt year, but i WILL have the IM dvd and hopefully TT and TS too (plus all the cool extras on each) to tide me over. and he might get to attend the ceremonies of the you-know-wats in march or february as well. *crosses fingers & eyes & toes* *knocks on wood several times too* ;)

Ally McBeal from the UK? No fair! I don't think my comp will run PAL dvds. Not to mention the fact that it was never released on official, extra-filled dvd here in the U.S. i wish i knew why tho, as i thought that the U.S. was where the show had its biggest fanbase. of course, this same thing occurred with the practice too. so, now, i kinda wonder if U.S. dvd-makers are boycotting david e. kelley for some reason? ...

you, buffy nutter! you! :( part 2 (is done dealing with buffy tho) johnsheppardluv September 16 2008, 18:16:33 UTC
i really think that RDJ is one of the best actors out there. ad it's cuz of hhus versatility more than anything. he could ALWAYS play for laughs and/or tears (see less than zero chaplin, or home for the holidays). But, NOW, as proven by KKBB (albeit to a lesser extent) and Iron Man (to the greater extent), and cuz he was finally given the chance to do so by a studio or two, he can also play for thrills. so, he's got the actorly-trifecta down pat! ;)

and, yes, i know very well "the scene" of which you speak of. *lol* i don't think ANY true (aka long-term/lifetime) rdj fan can NOT already know of it. *grin* *innocent whistle* ANNNND I just happen to have the NC-17 version. *innocent look* wat? i got it for purely artistic reasons, in order to compare the two versions. quite frankly tho, there's not much difference. there's maybe one or two minutes tacked onto "the scene" in question, but it's just more of the same really. bad (aka "discrete") angles STILL abound and NOTHING new is revealed or unclothed. (NOT that i was actually looking or anything, for there to be...)

hey tho! did you know there's a robert (together with the director and the brunette actress from the film) commentary on the dvd version of it? he doesnt say much, 'cuz he is embarrassed by "the scene" that we all talk about, even now. it was done about 5 years after the film was first released, in like 2001 or 2002 too, so it IS a bit oddly put together. ANND they actually gathered at someone's house to do it, i think.

as for your proposed Iron Man LIVE commentary/movie synching? it looks like ladylane13 already did it. She posted her version up on Sept 13, 2008, at two different LJ communities, tonypepper and ironman_movie. If you're a member of either one of these, then simply see here: http://community.livejournal.com/tonypepper/270163.html, or here: http://community.livejournal.com/ironman_movie/181607.html for her entry.

She has a yousendit link up for it. It's only one file, but it's a big one, at 1.49 GB. You can still download it from there for free tho. once the actual movie kicks in on the audio commentary, she starts the film up then too. (Note: All you see for the first 7 minutes of the file, as it only covers jon's and rdj's in-the-theatre introduction, is a black screen with a red iron man logo on it. and then you see that again after the 2 hrs 3 minute mark, in place of both the end credits and their post movie Q & A section).

the only problem with this pretty decent setup is that the movie copy she choose to synch the audio commentary up to is of a kinda dark (and possibly cam) quality that she got off a you-know-wat site, rather than of a crisp and clear true-dvd quality. But, it's still WAAAAAAAY better than nothing or having the audio all by itself...

But - yeah - IM is awesome awesomesauce! TT is quotable awesomesauce! and TS is sure to be/have some more of that as well! Downey Trifecta FTW! ;)

i wish MY drama teacher had mentioned RDJ as a model for greatness...tho I DOOO have to wonder if this was just because of IM and TT being successes or does he REALLY think RDJ is great and has always been so, regardless of the way you 'slice' him. in other words, i hope it was a real choice, and NOT simply a fad choice, on his part.

i'm telling you tho. i've been 'stalking' RDJ for a wwhiiile now, and i really STILL can't win. i've never been to leno or letterman or conon or kimmel at a time when he was on (nor, to be fair, AT ALL), even tho i do live on the east coast (so i could conceivably take in 3/4s of that list right now AND if it were free too, of course). heck, i've never even physically met the guy. not that i would know wat i would do if i did. cuz i'd probably die from shock if it ever happened. *small lol*

You MUST check out 1969, tho i doubt Blockbuster will have it. check out amazon.com instead. (they have plenty of VHS and dvd copies of it for sale, and they're listed at going for a great, low price too.)

as for his teeth? i think he got them fixed sometime in the mid 1990s (WITHOUT braces tho). Or he just might never have gotten his wisdom teeth removed, and so they came in successfully and naturally pushed the gap closed.

Huh, what do you mean you people? andi88 September 24 2008, 15:50:35 UTC
Awesome picture Sharma! Woohoo, hot wallpaper! I got the picture and I definitly stared at for quite some time. This man has such a unique fashion sense. It seems like even when you think he's wearing just a regular tux, there's something different about it that makes it all his own. That gray suit and purple shirt on him look sooo sexy. and HIS HAIR! Oh man, did I already tell you how astonished I get sometimes at how he could literatley pull off any hair style, long short, messy, clean, slicked back, in the face, no facial hair, facial hair (yes even with the mustache) and still he manages to look oh so yummy! LOL my younger cousing always laughs whenevr I see a sexy pictuer and I say "I just wanna eat him up!", yeah I'm a bit crazy at times. Lucky how you got set in that particular place on your WP, that is all you need! :D

The robbie williams cd is pretty good, I'm definitely enjoying. And though I have read that that lately he's not been too cool, I don't know what was said exactly or when cuz I don't get too deep into the celebrity gossip crap, but honestly I don't care much. Seriously now a days with things like TMZ and such, if one were to base whether to buy a cd or see a movie off the artist's personal life/opinions/whatever then I don't think I'd be enjoying much of anything lately. I mean I can't even describe how much I hate saites like perezhilton and such. They like to start a bunch drama out of nothing. Even with RDJ. They keep bringing up how he said something like screw DC, like months after it was said and totally out of contest just to start rumours. Whatever though, I guess to each his own....sorry about the rant, lol, but these things just really annoy me.

Maybe though if I find another hard copy of the cd sometime in the future at that store we could work something out and I could send you a copy. I'm telling you I walk into Sound Exchange and it is just amazing the variety of things they have, mostly because they have so many used cds and dvds, you can find pretty much anything in there. Too bad you guys don't have one of those where you live, and FYE doesn't even compare.

There's been a thread on the People magazine Sexiest Man Alive thing over at the imdb.com board, I don't know if you go there, and a number of people agree that RDJ should get the title. Even my friend, who really doesn't care much for RDJ said he should get it this year cuz he's had such a big year and HE"S JUST SEXY ;D. But as I've been saying and I posted this over at the board, the people over at People are going to measure it in terms of which cover will sell more and I'm thinking because he's younger, had the biggest movie of the year, and probably (though I would disagree) appeals to a wider audience, I think Christian Bale might also get it. I hope I'm wrong though., and OMG if I dare see George Clooney or Brad Pitt on one of those covers again I"M WRITING AN ANGRY LETTER TO THE EDITOR! lol, that would just be too much.

I'm thinking all the DVDs from this year should hold us up til 2010 too, hmm I should probably wait to watch AM again next year too to hold me over. I think only like a few episodes from the first season have been released Region 1 for the US, but from what I've heard the reason that the DVDs haven't been released here has to do with the cost of licnsing the songs for the DVDs. Like it would cost a WHOLE lot more to have the DVD here than in other countries so David E. Kelley pretty much said "screw that no DVDs in the US then" and so all us AM lovers have to deal with buying it from overseas. I'm hoping some day this issue will be fixed though. And I'm almost 100%, or maybe I should say 99.9% positive that all computers play any DVD from anywhere in the world though I think there is a lock to it that allows you to only change the region 5 times. Or you can either buy a multi region DVD player or look online and see if there is password to break the region code on your current DVD and make it play any DVD from any country.
