FIC: Star Trek 2009: Sulu/Chekov - Stuck Between All Things (R) Wall-'verse 2/?

Jul 22, 2009 10:24

Title: Stuck Between All Things
Author: andhopeto (Kris)
Pairings: Sulu/Chekov
Rating: R for overall subject matter (otherwise, this is pretty G-rated)
Characters: Sulu, Chekov
Word Count: 1,100
Warnings: Mostly-universal BDSM lifestyle, talk of ownership over people. Chekov is 17, therefore underage by some modern standards.
Summary: Sometimes you don't know who you are at all. It's when you meet that one person meant for you that you truly start to see.
Notes: Of course. I write a BDSM AU and there's no porn! (So far.) This story is set in the same universe as The Wall You Built. The timeline from each post is not linear, so I can't rightly call it a 'sequel'. I feel that this story can stand on its own. Title taken (with a word omitted) from Ben Kweller's song "Problems" which has nothing to do with this whatsoever.
Disclaimer: I don't own the rights to any of these characters. I simply dabble in this toybox.

I also wish to convey that while I have done a fair amount of (non-practical) research on the various aspects of BDSM over the years, this series is not meant to be representative of real BDSM relationships, nor should you look to this story for factual information on any aspect of BDSM. Do some real research instead. I don't pretend to be an expert on the subject.

I strove for realism in terms of characterization, but I also have a different world here than our own. You are, of course, welcome to offer criticism and I will take it into consideration, but I have a clear view of how this world works and what is driving my characters.

If you have any questions for me, feel free to ask. I don't bite. :)

'I don't think I mean much anyway/I have some problems/If you had the answers/We could solve them'

Eager to serve, eager to please.

Hikaru tried not to stare at the navigator to his right. He was young and pretty, and his easygoing demeanor continually drew Hikaru's eyes over to him.

Chekov.

He was pretty sure that the boy had said his name was Chekov. He tried not to stare, but watching him relay the message to the ship's crew was, well, it sounded silly, but it was like watching art in motion. Hikaru felt ridiculous and sentimental and told himself to focus on the matter at hand.

Not that moving through warp required any great skill on his part at the moment. It was the most boring part of piloting.

And then the boy-- Chekov-- turned his head and smiled at him, and Hikaru's breath froze in his chest. He wasn't just attractive physically. There was something about him, something about the way he spoke, the expression on his face when following orders, his posture, that called out to Hikaru in a way unfamiliar to him. Chekov was obviously, or rather, obvious to Hikaru, a sub. An uncollared sub at that.

The smooth expanse of the skin of his neck was rather telling. There wasn't a tan line or slight indentation that would indicate a recently removed collar. Chekov looked so young that it wouldn't have normally been a surprise, but Hikaru wondered how someone that young could find themselves in such a prominent position aboard the Enterprise without having a Dom or a Master backing him.

Hikaru found himself wanting to get to know Chekov, but now was neither the time nor place for it. Thankfully, just as he found himself stupidly opening his mouth to speak to him, commotion erupted on the bridge as three people came running in unannounced.

What happened next would go down in history, and Hikaru no longer had time to watch attractive young navigators with cute accents.

He did, however, have just enough time to regret bemoaning the less interesting aspects of working the helm.

Over the following two days, Hikaru was busier than he ever would have imagined before all of this mess. He never had the chance to talk to Chekov again, and certainly not privately. It wasn't until Gamma Shift, three days after the two had sat side-by-side at the helm that he finally had a moment to speak to him.

The both of them had, apparently, decided to stop and get something to eat at the same time. Hikaru didn't second-guess himself for even a moment, steeling himself without even thinking about it as he sat down across from Chekov, making sure not to spill his food all over the table. That would have been unforgivably embarrassing.

It was bad enough that he had made his first impression by forgetting to disable the inertial dampeners; he didn't need to add an uncharacteristic lack of grace to the mix as well.

"Ensign Chekov," Hikaru said in greeting, nodding at the seventeen-year-old. Seventeen! Hikaru had thought he looked young, but he hadn't been expecting to hear that. Seventeen already seemed a lifetime away.

"Lt. Sulu," Chekov responded in kind, his fork pausing above his plate as he offered up a smile.

"We're not on duty, Ensign," Hikaru immediately countered. "You don't need to use my title."

"Yes, sir. Sulu," he corrected himself instantly as what could only be described as a knowing smile flitted across his face before straightening back out. The way his mouth shaped the word, the sound of his accent affecting the pronunciation of his name, it lifted up the sound of it and left the way most people pronounced it feeling flat. "Then I must insist you do that same," Chekov said, offering Hikaru the same courtesy.

Hikaru Sulu had no idea what he was getting himself into with this boy.

«Pavel, are you listening to me?»

Pavel blinked and looked back at the video communication he was currently engaged in and smiled at his mother's stern face.

«Sorry, Mama,» he answered back in his native tongue, relishing the feel of the language in his mouth. It was something he had missed dearly. «I'm just tired,» he lied. His mother was many wonderful things, and one of those things included being terrible at sniffing out a lie.

«Pasha?» She immediately began fussing over him. «Are you getting enough sleep? Have you been eating? You're so thin. It's not healthy.»

«Mama, Mama, I'm fine. I just didn't get enough sleep last night. Please stop worrying,» he said reassuringly. «I'm going to go to bed in a few minutes.»

She pursed his lips, but then nodded, her expression softening.

«We love you, Pasha. And we're proud of you.»

«I love you too, Mama,» he whispered after she cut the transmission. He turned off his own screen, feeling duller on the inside than he had before she called him up.

There was nothing like a video feed from home to make him feel homesick.

Pavel loved the stars, loved the thought of reaching out into space and charting his way through the vast unknown.

But sometimes he still wished he was back home with his Mama hovering and his father always looking vaguely displeased, but still feeling a sense of belonging he hadn't felt in so long.

The closest he had come was on the Enterprise's week-long voyage back to Earth after ejecting their warp core. Spending a week amongst the stars, amongst the crew that had just saved the day through all their combined efforts had left him feeling more whole, more complete than he had felt in years.

Sometimes when he turned his head at his post and he saw Hikaru Sulu sitting to his left he had to fight back a smile.

Pavel's mother had always told him that when he found the right person, the person he would either wish to place his symbol of ownership onto or the person he would wish to fully submit to, he would just know.

He hadn't believed her. She had said she could tell that his father would be the one for her the moment she met him, and to Pavel, that was a good indication that it couldn't be true.

The idea of a soul mate seemed so completely unscientific that it was laughable. But the moment Pavel had looked at Hikaru (for he was always Hikaru in his own thoughts), Pavel felt something inside of him change. It felt like he had been missing a piece of his heart throughout his entire life, and now the rest of his soul was shifting to accommodate Hikaru in his life.

Now he had to find out if Hikaru felt the same.

Feedback/critique is always encouraged, but in the end, I just hope you enjoyed this. ♥
