"So, Bones," the captain said, a smirk on his face as he eyed his CMO from the side.

"Yes, Jim?" McCoy responded, voice a bit lower than his usual register.

"Don't I have that... thing... scheduled?"

"Thing? What thi-? Oh. Right. That... thing. Scheduled. I think you're right."

The crew on the bridge did their best to keep their eyes on their stations.

"Commander? You have the conn."

Spock had never seen the two of them get into the transporter that fast before, barring any emergencies. He cocked a solitary eyebrow.

"Fascinating."

Sulu looked at Chekov.

Chekov looked back at Sulu.

Neither of them were looking at Kirk or McCoy, who were sitting beside the both of them, eating lunch.

"Keep your feet to yourself, Jim," McCoy said in what could only be described as a playful tone.

Chekov started choking on his sandwich.

"Hello, Doctor."

Nurse Chapel sighed inwardly. There was no mistaking that look on the captain's face.

"Jim, what are you doing in my Sickbay?" growled McCoy, but there was a distinct lack of bite to his words.

"I think I'm overdue on my physical," Kirk responded, looking around the room in what he sadly must have thought was a discreet manner. It would be cute if he wasn't the captain of an entire starship. In actuality, Chapel was wondering if she oughtn't get herself reassigned to another ship.

"Are you?" McCoy made a show of pretending to check his PADD. Chapel couldn't contain a roll of her eyes at that. He didn't even leave the screen he was currently on. "You know what? You're right. Very overdue in fact.

"Chapel, why don't you take a break? I'm sure the captain would appreciate a little privacy. For his physical."

"Of course, Doctor," she said, hoping that they had the presence of mind to sanitize the place after.

"Captain! What are you-?" Scotty asked, seeing Kirk standing behind some of the louder machinery in Engineering. It was right between Beta and Gamma shifts, and Scotty was one of the few people still loitering around until the stragglers all poured in to their assigned sections.

However, Scotty quickly realized his mistake. He assumed the captain was down here alone.

"Scotty!" Kirk yelped in surprise, turning around hastily and smiling guiltily. His tunic was rumpled and the button on his pants was undone. Not to mention the fact that his lips were looking mighty abused at the moment.

"Uh, I have to-" Dr. McCoy said, clearing his throat as he appeared from behind the captain, and darted out of the way.

"Right, right, you go and... do that!" Kirk called after him.

It wasn't difficult to notice that McCoy's hair was mussed beyond recognition and that his lips were just as flush as the captain's.

Perhaps Scotty just had space dust in his eyes or something, because he didn't notice. Not at all. Not him.

"Bones," came a long, low groan over the intercom system.

"Harder, Bones." That was definitely the captain's voice.

Perhaps the doctor was giving the captain a back massage? That had to be it. They just... accidentally hit the button for the com when they were....

Oh, fuck, nobody on board was stupid enough to believe that.

"I love you," McCoy said heartfully.

"Yeah, me too," Kirk agreed, holding onto the doctor tightly, ignoring the multiple bruises and lacerations that adorned his own body.

The dust around the away team was settling, and there were more than a few bodies lying in the debris, some unconscious. Some were dead.

"I mean," the captain hastily backtracked, pulling back a little, "as a friend. I love you as a friend, Bones," he amended weakly. He stared at his fellow officers a moment. Despite being already pale from being held captive for three days and the cumulative blood loss, he lost what little color he had left in his face.

"For God's sake, Captain," Uhura spat out. "We're not idiots. Just kiss him already, or let him kiss you, or however it works between the two of you. We don't have time for this."

Kirk and McCoy both stared at her dumbly.

"Did you two actually think you were being discreet? How did you ever make it through the academy?" she asked in disbelief, and then shook her head.

"Never mind. I don't want to know. Now, someone give Captain Kirk a phaser, and let's get out of here. You two can cuddle once we're beamed back aboard the Enterprise," she ordered scornfully, ignoring the fact that she was doubly outranked.

"You heard the woman, Doctor," Kirk said after a second of stunned silence. "Let's go. So we can cuddle."

"Cuddle, my ass," McCoy mumbled under his breath.

"Maybe later," Kirk breathed out in a laugh.
