Fandom Snowflake Day 9

Promote at least one canon that I adore.

Oh, that's hard. I mean... it's really hard. I adore... so many and I don't even know how to work a canon into... well. I guess I can start with CoEd School, and go to Speed, and then... sob at their demise.

I don't remember when or how I actually ran across this group. Well, I know when, approximately, because it was just after they debuted, so in 2010. The first MV was called Too Late. It prompted a lot of ideas, a lot of fics, and I just... really enjoy the song. it's still one of my favorites.

The blond man there? That's Taewoon, and the first time a rapper actually caught my eye. At this point, a friend of mine and I (dizzy_grace) had created this great little universe - x-men but in Seoul. Coed School introduced our second generation, so to speak. I remember because we literally got Taewoon's and Sungmin's power from this mv.

Their second mv was a cute little thing called Bbiribbom Bbaeribbom. Not as much as something I wanted to write, but still... I like this one, too. The third was a ballad (and as I'm not that into such things, it was... okay, but eh).

And then they vanished. Sort of.

The next year, the company announced that there would be subgroups: a girl group called 5 Dolls, with the four from Coed school and one other girl, and the boys. The girls came first, and they did a couple of songs (Lip Stains and Your Words) which the videos were sort of related (I wasn't that impressed, although I watched them because I really do like Chanmi).

The boys eventually reappeared with the name of Speed, having lost one and gained one, to do a special stage for a song called Homage to Lovey Dovey (or Lovey Dovey plus). It was... a song from the other group from their company, named T-ara. Personally, I didn't thing the original song was that good, although they did have a nice zombie version. One of the girls from T-ara produced the mv, and as it was just... horrible (I mean, seriously, bouncing in and out, and... gah), the link goes to one of the live stages. Anyway. So there was that. (Note: the girl is either one of the original girls from CoEd school or her twin, who wound up in T-ara briefly. That's a whole different can of worms.)

And then they vanished again.

The girls had some scandal and some of them left and were replaced, and by then I didn't even care for their music, so I ignored them.

2013, the announcement came that CoEd school no longer would even try to get back together, because the girls had so many new people, and by this time, Speed had lost two more and gained three. They had a couple of songs (which I loved because they were SPEED), and I was so excited to be able to see them again. In spite of having to relearn the group. Still, That's My Fault was cool - although, to be honest, I couldn't sit through the drama version (it didn't have the boys in it, so the above is the dance version). And then they did It's Over, and that was just... COOL. The girl was from another group from the same company, Davici, and the dancer is Yoohwan. Some of those moves... I have yet to see anyone do something like that, and I'm still stunned at it. My favorite is at 1:07, although you can't see it well.

After that came the repackaged album with Pain the love of heart, which brought up more ideas (because I can get them from anywhere, and the whole scene of Yoohwan swiping things off the desk (around 2:16) really wanted to be in a scene somewhere, and I never managed it. Drat).

The next mini album was called Speed Circus, which... honestly, made sense. The first song off it, Don't Tease Me, was a BLAST. The MV is from a showcase they did in Mongolia, and there's some SERIOUS acrobatics going on there. There's the human jump rope one (I don't want to know how many times they dropped that poor man) at 3:09, and then the highest back flip from their youngest I've ever seen at the end - it wasn't until the end of their promotions that he actually hurt himself. So I'm glad for that. Also on that mini came the song Why I'm not, which brought in SeJoon with blond hair and dark roots. And that sparked the white tiger thing (which is a whole series: Speed Urban Fantasy, the first one called "My Boyfriend is a Part-Time Tiger"), and is my image of him to this day. He's my favorite weretiger.

The repackaged album had a song called Look at Me Now that they filmed in Mongolia (I think?). Another... oh, what did they call it, a sort of... short time thing, not exactly a title track, and they didn't even promote it all that long (there's a specific word, and I can't remember what it is). It was called Zombie Party (the girl is one of the trainees at the company). A fun bop, still one of my favorites to listen to.

By now we're in 2015, and the next news made me want to cry. Taewoon decided to leave the group. Now, I wasn't all that surprised, the company hadn't done very well with the group, and it's... It was quite disappointing, all told. Still, I enjoyed the group, I like the music, so I stuck with it. Another young man joined in, Ki.O, and they released the song What U, a delightful song (although I missed Taewoon's rap, and Sungmin didn't even rap on it, his part, because he was sick when they recorded it, so SeJoon did it). The actual choreography is more apparent here at the dance practice - they did the whole thing on Heelies. Seriously fun.

At the end of 2015, the company removed Speed's profile from the page. In 2016, Jungwoo left the group, then SeJoon. Taeha went solo under the name I-One, and Yoohwan spent a fair amount of time singing with a group called the Pirates (I think). To this day, no official announcement has been made about the disbandment of the group.

I felt worst for Ki.O, who actually never got to do much (although he did perform What U at the biggest concert in South Korea, the Dream Concert). By the last mv, only two of the original members were left. I loved this group, loved this band, and it was so... sad how the potential was wasted - both as the coed group, and as Speed. I miss them still.
