Summary: An is slighted at the mixer.
Author's Notes: This is a part of a rewrite of Pride and Prejudice, and since I wrote this, we reworked the cast, so An is no longer in Lizzy's role (Akira is). We haven't worked out all the bugs, but the estates are colleges, etc. If you have any questions, ask.
Disclaimer: Characters are owned by Konomi Takeshi, and whoever did the anime. At any rate, it's not me.
An sank down on a chair next to Choutarou, and breathed out a sigh in relief. "This team is impossible," she said softly.
He turned to look at her. "What do you mean?" he asked.
She gestured to the room, crowded with the rest of his team, and the new one from Netherfield. "They are all quite…." She hesitated, not sure how to describe them. "Impossible. Rich. Completely stuck up." She suddenly grinned. "Do you know what he said about me?"
Choutarou blinked in some confusion. "Who?" he asked.
She nodded her head toward where she'd been sitting earlier, where Atobe still stood, stiffly, against the wall, barely paying attention to anything. Next to him, the friendly strawberry blonde was grinning widely at something another of their party had said (she didn't know them all, yet). "Atobe," she clarified, still speaking softly. They were far enough away, and the music was loud enough, that he couldn't hear, but still. It wouldn't do for someone to over hear her.
"I don't," Choutarou said.
Her grin widened. "Your Akutagawa tried to get him to dance with me. And he said," she added, with a laugh, and then cleared her throat to try to get the tone and everything just right. "Oh, she is tolerable, I suppose, but she is not handsome enough to tempt me."
Choutarou's eyes nearly leaped out of his head. "He what?"
It was nearly as fun to see his reaction as it had been to hear Atobe say that in the first place. "That's what he said," she told him. "I can't believe it. Well, I can; I've heard a lot of things about the people at Netherfield, but he's new. I thought he'd be different."
And then Choutarou blushed - he'd always blushed rather prettily, but this was completely different - and glared at her. "He's not my Akutagawa," he said firmly. "Jirou is just...." And he stopped, flustered, at her laugh. "What?"
"He's not yours?" she teased gently. "Chouta, he said you could call him by his first name. I'd say that meant something."
Choutarou shrugged uncomfortably. "I think everyone does," he said, but that cute blush was still high in his cheeks. "He doesn't seem to care, one way or another."
"Strange, for someone as friendly as he is, to be so close with Atobe," she mused, watching the two of them before turning a wicked smile on Choutarou again. "But that's okay. Akutagawa seems to be a nice boy. I give you leave to fall in love with him."
"An!" Choutarou protested, but before he could say anything else, Akutagawa came and stole her friend away.
She hadn't been sitting there long when Oishi Syuichiro came to sit with her, and she smiled at him. "It's been a while," he said quietly. "How are you?"
An took a deep breath. "I'm doing well," she said with a grin. "I've just been slighted, you know, by someone with more money and power than I'll ever have, and it was just so hilarious I can barely keep from laughing."
Oishi gave her a confused look. "Laughing?"
"Oh, yes," she said, and then quickly outlined what had happened.
Oishi stared at her, then glanced over at Atobe - and then, to her surprised, chuckled himself. "He really said that?" he asked.
An looked up and was surprised to find Atobe's gaze on her. She turned back to her friend, grinning again. "He did."
