Oh how I love it when everything works out. True to form, I waited until the last minute to do my Christmas shopping. On the 23rd, my wife and I set out to get presents for the last couple people on our list when we decided to step into Best Buy. We walked though the game section and saw something that we never thought possible- games priced at $0.00. Very pleased with ourselves, we went to the counter and thanks to a Wisconsin statute (98.08) we walked out of the store with $70 worth of free games in the bag.
Knowing there were more games priced like that, I made another trip the next day to see if I could find some more "reasonably priced" games. This is where the trouble started. It only took me 2 minutes of looking to find another game (Eragon) that had a $0.00 price tag. The clerk at the counter was understandably confused, and went to get a manager. I ended up talking to this very rude, insulting prick named mike, who accused me of being a theif. No matter how much I tried to explain that if the the scanner price was different from the price labeled on the product, that I am entitled to the difference, the manager would not budge. With a "my decision is final", I left.
The minute I got home I went to work. I wrote down what happened and did some research online. The first call I made was to the customer service line for Best buy. I explained what happened, and read word for word the statute that guarenteed me a copy of Eragon free. When I was denied a second time, I got nasty. I e-mailed Wisconsin's Bureau of Consumer Protection and explained everything that happened. I named names, and invited them to investigate a possible violation of consumer protection laws. Nearly a month later, I got an official letter in the mail from the state saying that my claim was noted and that Best Buy was being investigated. Two weeks later, I got a $35 Best Buy gift card in the mail. My tax dollars hard at work! God I love this state.
