Dear Gateway Playhouse
Fuck you, Gateway Playhouse. I just read your "audition notice". Here it is, for those of you who haven't seen it:
GATEWAY PLAYHOUSE Main Stage Production of SHOWBOAT Auditions Tues, July 8 at 3:30pm
Casting ensemble roles. Looking for One little girl ages 7-9 (Caucasian) to play Kim Ravenal. Also young adults and adult actors age range 17-55. Adults will be given a scene to read, if they are appropriate for a supporting role. They should prepare a short song, if they are singers. We are seeking Caucasian and African American actors for SHOWBOAT. All principal roles in SHOWBOAT have been cast with professional actors. SHOWBOAT rehearsals will begin on July 15; performances will run from July 30-Aug 23. Ensemble does not rehearse every day. There is a stipend for travel available for adults cast. I take issue with this for SO many reasons it makes me sick. ESPECIALLY--- "All principal roles in SHOWBOAT have been cast with professional actors." Excuse me. Just because I live on Long Island and have a career doesn't make me any less "professional" than your fucking "professional" actors. I get paid to act. I get paid to sing. I have a degree. I'm a fucking professional. Yeah, some of what I do is amateur, but don't fucking bite the hands that feed you, my friends. You are advertising your auditions on DEB'S WEB. You're not PAYING your ensemble?? Since when the fuck did your asses play that game??? If I've got to rehearse for this shit you'd BEST be paying. And this "stipend for travel" shit is BULLSHIT!!!! WHY do I have to VOLUNTEER at your "professional" theatre, when people who are PROBABLY not much better than me (but maybe thinner) have roles? Yeah. You can stuff the Showboat ensemble.
