I’m sorry, did someone say procrastination?

I seriously have nothing intelligent to say in this assignment anymore and now I have 1000 words left to go and no idea what to write about.

This is a huge disappointment for me as I got an email from the teacher this morning about another assignment I did saying it was brilliant and she’d love to sit down with me and pick my brain about how parenting styles could be used to influence society: drop crime rate etc. When in doubt, I should talk about my experience training dogs, apparently. (No really-comparing parenting to training security dogs is apparently distinction grade stuff. I knew I’d made an awesome parent!)

My own failing genius aside, I want to talk about the internet.

I don’t idolize many people in life. I can probably count the number of people I really look up to and get a bit silly over on one hand. Well, at a quick headcount, I’m going to say there are eight people who fall into that category. These are the people who create the comfort food of my brain. The people whose stuff I curl up with when I’m sad or sick or have the plague.

I have talked to five of those people online. Two (female) authors, one agent-information guru, one writer/artist and one oh-so-sexy famous actor.

The other three, all male authors, have, as yet, remained elusive. Damn them.

My point is, if it weren’t for the internet, this wouldn’t happen. It’s easy for these people to respond quickly to their fans on their LJ or forum. Well, I’m sure it takes a bit of time, but not as much as, say, talking to them in person or sending full length letters in the mail.

And it honestly means the world to me when the people I look up to--because their creative talents have given me comfort and happiness when I needed it-SAY something to me. It’s as good as someone saying: “You’re okay. The universe still loves you, even if you are a huge screwball.”

BTW: Does anyone else think the James Blunt song 'No Bravery' is secretly about a Stephen King novel? Like, hell, just about any of them? The line "he has been here" makes me think of Cell, The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon and Desperation. All at once.
