Wow! I’m just coming down from the most incredible weekend! One of my suppliers took a group of us out into the bushveld for a day spa, as we needed the relaxation therapy (I like the way they think). What an experience! I have never been scrubbed, polished, rubbed, prodded, poked and oiled so much in my life… if they gone any further this entry would have been classed as femslash…!
The day started with champagne and orange juice while we were driven to the spa, where we were welcomed with more champagne and breakfast. Then we spilt into smaller groups, and my group headed off for Indian head massages under a thatched lapa at the side of the river. We were then taken (by golf cart … all of 300 metres, ‘cos walking might have been too stressful) to the treatment rooms for facials, followed by a sea-salt and citrus oil full body scrub and wash. Lunch (with chocolate cake, tiramisu or cheesecake for dessert - thought these places were supposed to be healthy?) was followed by a 30 minute soak in the open-air Jacuzzi under the trees, looking at the mountains. (and yes, I got my nose sunburnt… I have a really small nose and it’s always the first bit to catch the sun. Go figure!). Then, a hand scrub and massage, then back onto the golf cart to the side of the river for a foot scrub and massage.
To finish off, we were taken to small private pavilion-style tents with the open side facing the river, for a full body massage with hot stones. Back to the lodge for liqueurs and hand-made chocolates, before leaving for home clutching our Clarins gift packs! I’ve never felt so pampered and relaxed in my life… I could get seriously used to it! The really great thing about this particular spa is that all 85 of the staff are previously unemployed ladies from a nearby squatter camp who have been employed and trained as beauty therapists, given accommodation and a chance at something better in life. And 50% of the spa’s profits are given back to the local community, so I didn’t feel too bad about the whole decadent thing. Anyway, I’m still feeling very chilled and relaxed and life is great!
