If there is one Chinese New Year tradition that I would like to break it would be - me falling sick on the second day of Chinese New Year
Flashback to last year, after the then boyfriend, now the fiance came over to my place to 'bia nia' we cabbed to his house. the cab trip was horrible and by the time we reached his place, my lunch (reads: bah kwa, pineapple tarts, kueh bangkit, etc) was halfway up my windpipe. So after giving his parents the oranges and getting the ang pows from them, I plonked myself on the bed and felt my stomach churned like hell. I asked him if he had any sng mui in his house because I really don't want to throw up at his place, not during the second day of the Chinese New Year. So after a few nibbles of the sng mui, I felt my lunch retreating back to my tummy, right where it should have been hours ago, so was good. Shortly after, his brother in law came to pick us up to go over to his parent's place for dinner. As the 4 of us (the fiance, me, his mom and his sister) squeezed like sardines at the back seats and coupled with the 'wonderful F1 worthy' driving skills of his brother in law, when I reached his parents place, I couldn't contain my lunch anymore. I asked them where the nearest toilet was and I was showed to the toilet near the pool.
And so I puked, like I never puked before. Now, all was well at this point in time because I was puking in semi darkness as the toilet lights were not on, and might as well because I really didn't want to see what I had puked and furthermore, the bloody flush wasn't working, until I heard his brother in law's voice.
"Ehh, on the lights for her lah, if not she cannot see!"
-End of story.
And I remember correctly, 2 Chinese New Year ago, I also fell sick on the second day, and same routine, reach his place, bai nian, took some panadol because I was running a temperature, and fell asleep on his bed. Woke up, went to watch movie (21 Grams) somemore. After the show ended, it was pouring elephants and lions. Felt even worse, the fiance sent me home in a cab, made some porridge, took medication and went to bed.
So there, hopefully I won't be sick again this Chinese New Year.
