ILU BB. Okay, so you knew that. But I also love this fic (you probably knew that too). It's funny because your Damon is SO DAMON (truer to the characterization than virtually every other fanfic Damon out there) but I also see a ton of you in him. It's a nice melding, actually. But that doesn't surprise me. You excel at that archetype. What surprises me is your Elena... see, I know full well that you're an awesome writer, but her voice doesn't seem to me like one that would come to you naturally. But... I think I'm wrong? She's written beautifully (and honestly and without any air of forced characterization) and she's SUCH a teenage girl (you nailed it with the 'conversation is over but she can't quite let it go' thing and the 'inner adult' comment). Every bit as good as your Damon, IMO. I'm impressed (nothing new, but still noteworthy, that).

Beyond all that, I love that you're building a story here that feels unique (even if there are a billion and two Damon/Elena roadtrip fics out there; this is categorically not them). It's asking questions I ask and going in a different direction than the typical fic and it's memorable for its uniqueness and its spot-on characterizations.

I'm stunned that you're finding Damon harder to write. His voice feels totally fluid. I might be less nice to you if i'd had less wine at dinner? idk. (also this is why i'm leaning toward port over vodka)

Honestly? I think I'm finding Damon harder because I'm being overly critical of my representation of him. But you're right about Elena - she is so unlike me and it's tricky to make her voice genuine, so it's nice to know it's working!
