So I was reading an article on CNN.com (http://www.cnn.com/2006/POLITICS/11/17/liberal.wishlist.ap/index.html) concerning the 'wish list' of the new liberal-controlled Capital Hill when I came across these gems:

"Anticipate the fiercest assault of our time against abstinence, marriage, life, good judges, and religious freedom," Perkins wrote this week in the National Review.

Wow. Really? I mean... really? Let's get some things straight here. Liberals aren't against abstinence. They're against the absolutely foolhardy method of abstinence-only sex education programs. Marriage? Well fine, take that one; he's right there, because Liberals feel marriage is a right for everyone, not a privilige for a select group. Life? Alright, abortion, I get it. Good judges? Religious freedom? I'm sorry, but that's just off. Liberals want freedom, period. And as I see it, the only 'religious freedom' that's in jeopardy is the religious hegemony of Christianity. Could it be that Christianity will no longer be considered a proper guidepost for legislature? Oh, no! Christiani--I mean, religious freedom-- is under fire!
And excuse me, but I think over the past few years we've experienced the fiercest assault of our time against safe sex practices, equal rights, women's rights, and religious freedom for *everyone*. We all have our grievances.

Another conservative leader, the Rev. Louis Sheldon of the Traditional Values Coalition, asserted that the gay-rights bills likely to advance next year will infringe on the rights of those who condemn homosexuality.

I don't even think there's much to say about this except that people have, and will always have, the right to condemn homosexuality. What they should not have a right to do is to legislate their religious beliefs.

"All Americans must be prepared to endure serious threats to their freedom of speech, their right to make employment decisions as business owners and their religious freedom in the business world," Sheldon said.

As I see it, freedom of speech has been threatened for a long time. For the past few years, during the frenzy of Freedom Fries and unconditional support, critics of the war or the president were called "un-American." The only un-American thing that could occur would be to silence voices of protest. Protest is what our country was founded on.

I don't hate conservatives. I don't disagree with everything they have to say. And I'm not saying liberals don't have a tendency to say stupid things about conservatives. I'm just calling them as I see them, and putting out there the suggestion that the country's new turn to the Democrats isn't the downfall of America; it's our attempt to save it.
