confused

so i went to speak to my advisor the other day about my senior show and he was basically like "you should REALLY consider switching disciplines. i feel like you're a more sophisticated photographer than printmaker and honestly your prints aren't feeling original or even technically proficient to me." (this is a hard and fast summary but basically that's it.) he wants me to start building up my portfolio because there's apparently a large market for non-art photographers and he thinks i'd do well at it. so then he gave me all these addresses and websites and things so i could see my future taking photos for wildlife and fisheries brochures, medical catalogs, or of crime scenes. on one hand i'm really depressed because i was basically told that i suck at what i've been working at for a LONG time. on the other hand i know it's his job to be realistic and tell me what i could actually do to make money in my future. i'm not really sure how i should feel honestly. i'm willing to listen to him because he's probably right; I never really expected to make money as an artist (i figured i would maybe get a job with a printing studio and do artist reproductions if i was lucky) but he was pretty clear that was a long shot. SO I never thought I could actually make a living creating art (creating lithographs of thomas kinkaide paintings is hardly what i'd love to do but i'm willing!) but I thought I was at least good enough to get a useless BFA!
i'm so confused about this. honestly i'm not really that great of a photographer (although apparently just good enough that he thinks i could take pictures of dead guys or whatever). this whole situation has me really down. i'm at a loss.
