Gina’s not pleased with the twist. Oh, the one in the case is just fine, the one where the corrupt businessman turns out to have been framed by his stepson - that makes sense. It’s the one after that, the one where Nikki and Rook don’t ride off into the sunset after all, where Nikki is in love with a good man and Rook bows out gracefully - that’s the one Gina doesn’t like. Readers want happy endings.
“It is a happy ending,” Rick protests. “For Nikki, anyway.”
“Fix it, Rick,” she tells him.
He doesn’t promise. “Maybe in the next book.”
