Character Information
Character Name: Wing
Fandom: Transformers (specifically IDW comic 'verse)
Source: Just gonna leave this here because while the series isn't obscure, his corner of it might be considered so.

Character History: (there very little detail surrounding the history of this character and his faction and I doubt there'll ever be much more, so I've filled in the gaps here and there.)

Before civil war tore Cybertron apart, Wing was a structural engineer working in Iacon. It was there that he started to take notice of the slow rot in the governing bodies that would eventually spark the unease leading up to the war. Distinctly aware of the growing division between the privilege around him in Iacon and the ever expanding squalor elsewhere, he split his time between his official duties and work in the lower class sectors in an attempt to improve the living conditions. Nothing could stop the inevitable however, and when war finally broke out, Wing found that he agreed with neither of the two new factions- Autobot or Decepticon. He quickly allied himself with a third group, a loose faction comprised of those who wanted to remain neutral. Disgusted by the senseless death doled out en mass by the primary weapons of the war, Wing and the others rejected the use of guns and took up ancient bladed weapons, forming the knights that would become the guardians of the Circle of Light.

When enough became enough, the Circle was officially named and the decision was made to leave Cybertron. Wing helped gather those that wanted to come and fled the planet with the others. The group, numbering in the thousands and comprised of both intellectuals who refused to fight and neutrals who wanted safety, moved from planet to planet, continually pushed by the expanding scope of the Autobot-Decepticon war. At each new location, Wing was on hand to lend his skills in establishing a foothold for their community even if each ended up being little more than a transient settlement. Eventually, they came across a planet that offered them the ability to move underground, the naturally occurring cave system massive enough to accommodate an entire colony of Cybertronians. Along with other engineers and architects that had joined them, Wing helped start construction of Crystal City.

The planet went undiscovered and undisturbed for ages until a band of slave traders started using the nearby mountain range as a base of operations. The ruling members of the Circle of Light chose to ignore them, refusing to do anything that would compromise the location of Crystal City. Wing, unable to sit on his hands about the matter, snuck out of the city with the intent to free the captured slaves. Before he could do anything, however, he ran into the outcast Decepticon Deadlock who gave his name as Drift. The two agreed to work together, but Drift betrayed Wing, leaving him to drag the Decepticon back to Crystal City when the slavers nearly killed him.

The double infractions of both leaving the city and bringing back an outsider (let alone a Decepticon) put Wing in trouble with the Circle. Their hands tied, they ordered Wing to watch over Drift and make sure he stayed in isolation from the general population. Feeling that there was something different about Drift, Wing decided to make use of their time together by offering him a deal: if Drift could beat him in unarmed combat, Wing would let him go free. Otherwise, they were going to be together for a very long time. Wing trained Drift in the combat style of the knights over the next several weeks until a coded Decepticon message was intercepted and Drift summarily vanished from the city.

When he showed back up, he reveled to Wing and the rest of the Circle that the slave traders had made a deal with the Decepticon head-hunter Lockdown, who had been hired to bring back the wayward Deadlock. Drift was supposed to lead the citizens of Crystal City into an ambush in exchange for his own life. Now directly threatened, Dai Atlus commanded that Drift should be locked up and they would remain hiding in secret, refusing to believe that they would eventually be discovered. Knowing otherwise, Wing, Drift and several other members of the Circle came up with a plan to sacrifice their own lives as decoys- once they were dead, the traders and Lockdown would move on, believing them to be all there was.

They put the ploy into motion the next day, meeting the army of traders in battle around a dummy ship. Wing fought closely with Drift, coaching him through the battle until the two were singled out and separated by the leader of the traders--Braid--and Lockdown, respectively. Wing put up a good fight, but after losing one of his knives and being knocked over by Braid, Wing's defenses were down and the slaver was poised to strike a final blow...

And that's where he'll be waking up in Nautilus: about five seconds shy of his own death.

History from Nautilus
Wing Woke in Nautilus shortly before Christmas in the Southern District, where he nearly fell on Orihime during his less than graceful entrance. After being welcomed over the network, he let Orihime take him to Ground Zero, where he met Wheeljack and who agreed to let him stay in the building as a guest. Only a few days later, he was introduced to some of Nautilus' quirks as he joined in the fight against the giant robot Santa Claus on Pineapple Island and suffered the persistent mistletoe with the rest of the city.

By then having been told about Bending, but still unable to do it himself, Wing sought out Starscream since the Decepticon had been friendly with him during his arrival. The two met outside the city walls and Starscream taught Wing how to Bend for the first time, taking him on as a student. Eager to practice his new skills, Wing adopted a small cluster of old Cybertronian buildings in the Southern District and started using his Bending to restore them from disrepair. And clearly, after he'd finished, the best way he could think to christen the new space he'd created was by challenging Sideswipe to a fight. The altercation nearly took Wing's life, with Sideswipe leaving him in the care of Rex, who had been watching from the sidelines. Luckily Rex was able to repair Wing with the help of his nanites, although the experience was new and less than comfortable for both parties. Wing pulled through with a new found respect for both Rex and Sideswipe.

Some time later, Wing was on hand when the Labyrinth broke through Antovil and despite his initial, terrified reaction, he was still able to help Wheeljack relocate the shaken Deva to Ground Zero. Afterward, Wing was one of the first to be taken by the Labyrinth, where he was forced to face his own personal shortcomings; a test that Wing believed he failed miserably. Considerably rattled by the experience, Wing abruptly returned to his home world in an attempt to reconcile with himself.

The trip was only marginally successful. He did return, but was still unable to shake a growing call to return back to Sleep. He eventually gave in, saying his goodbyes and leaving his possessions behind to leave Nautilus with the belief that he hadn't been ready for the strength he felt the city needed from him. He left the city to face his fate with the hope that he would one day hear the call to Wake again when he was ready.

Character Personality:
Wing wants to help. It doesn't matter who or how; he firmly believes that there's nothing better in life than being there to give someone that hand up or sympathetic ear when they need it. To some, bending over backwards for everyone that needs it might seem like it's bordering on being a glory hog or an attempt to collect favors, but the only thing Wing expects in return for his generosity is the personal knowledge that no matter what anyone else might think, he knows that he's done the right thing. This isn't to say that this adopted life policy has fitted him with blinders to the things he can't help- he knows that there are some things that are beyond his influence, but that just makes him all the more determined to change the things he can.

Wing also wants to protect and while he's not quite up to Mother Bear levels, he won't hesitate to fight for whoever or whatever he's taken under his care. This includes ideas, one of which he's particularly protective of: the legacy of a peaceful Cybertronian way of life. The need to preserve that ideal is what caused him to leave with the rest of the Circle of Light and despite his current frustration with the ennui that he feels has infected the Circle's methods, he still fiercely believes in the intentions they left Cybertron with. He denounces the great civil war as the doom of Cybertron and the Transformer race and he hates what he feels it's done to otherwise good Transformers. Given half a chance, he'd be more than willing to talk about the poisonous effects of the endless fighting in an attempt to sway others to his ideals. If only everyone else could just understand what's possible, every city could be Crystal City!

When words fail, however, and he has to take action, Wing will fight down to the last flicker of his spark for everything he preaches about. He knows that the universe isn't a peaceful place, no matter how much he may want it to be and that sometimes you have to draw your weapons to make sure there's something left worth defending. He treats battle with a respect that comes from his training as a knight, treating his weapons and his skill in using them as tools to serve others as opposed to gaining any personal sense of strength or superiority. He knows that he has to be strong not for himself, but for the ones who aren't.

Behind it all--the conviction, the strength, the sermons--is someone who just wants those around him to be safe and happy. And maybe a world where everyone can live like that is beyond anyone's reach, but that doesn't stop Wing from doing what he can to be a bastion of that security to those who want or need it.

Powers:
First of all, like all Transformers, Wing has the ability to switch between two forms. Unfortunately, there's no canon depiction of his alt form and he's never shown transforming in the comics, even in part. Based on name, frame shape and some of his kibble, I'd say that it's a fairly safe assumption to make that his alt mode is aerial- likely some sort of Cybertronian jet, possibly of a reverse wing design. It's unlikely his alt mode has any sort of special weaponry or abilities as he's rejected guns and other long-range weaponry as a knight. It's probably little more than a mode of transportation for him at this point.

In his primary mode, Wing has no outstanding powers aside from his skill at bladed and hand-to-hand combat. On him at all times are three blades: two plasma knives that are carried in sheaths on his lower back and a long Great Sword that is nearly as tall as he is. The knives glow blue when activated and function as one would expect. The Great Sword is linked directly to the spark of the holder and uses the Transformers very life power to deliver exceptional blows. This particular weapon is never drawn unless death is certain otherwise.

First person:
To whom do we owe our loyalty? To the Decepticons and their rhetoric of 'unity'? To the Autobots and their claims of 'equality'? We owe these faceless badges the same loyalty we owed to the faceless senators who couldn't see what lay beneath their own feet. My fellow Cybertronians, your loyalty- your faith; trust; devotion- they all lie with your fellow mech. To the one standing at your side, holding their head high with you and saying, "I will not be forgotten. I will not be discarded. I will not let the badge others want me to wear direct my way." Discard these notions of faction and in-fighting! The spark within me is the same as yours and we are still Cybertronians, a race too old and too proud to have fallen so far. There is no peace in this endless fighting so long as we are fighting ourselves! How can we stand unified if we murder our own kind? We can--

...What? Hey! I- ow! I'm not done yet! Stop it, leave that alo-- [/transmission end]

Third Person:
Getting Drift out from under the noses of the slavers hadn't been easy. It had taken a creative diversion involving the plasma generator from his second knife, but he'd managed it and somehow made it back to Crystal City without leaving a trail of broken parts. The alien brute the Decepticon had gotten on the wrong end of had done a number to him and it was a miracle that he was even still alive. No, what was a miracle was that they were both alive. Wing supposed that he should have seen the betrayal coming- after all, the other mech was a Decepticon and they had only just met but had it been so wrong to hope that any sane mech could have understood the need for mutual assistance? Perhaps, but it was obvious that even before he was scrapped, Drift needed help. This was just forcing the matter on him.

When he finally dragged Draft's broken frame into the medbay, he might as well have been carrying a live grenade for how the staff on duty reacted. Some scrambled away, others gaped openly at the mess in his arms. Even crushed and mangled, the Decepticon brand was obvious: Wing had brought in someone from the outside. ...Dai Atlus was going to be furious.

"How different is his life from anyone else in this city?" he'd pleaded with the medics, beseaching them to help, assuring them that it was safe. There was a fellow Cybertronian dying in his arms and no one was going to help because they were afraid they were going to get a lecture?? "You have to do something!" he finally snapped, optics flashing in frustration. Finally someone stepped forward, followed by another and another. They took Drift from him and hurried him into a secluded room. Wing trusted his comrades, even for as hesitant as they were, and he knew that they would do what they could. No one would be going offline today and even if he had failed in his original mission, that he had still saved one life was enough for him.
