Fly by the seat of your pants.

Psychological evaluation: Senior Case Officer Lucas North.

Request from Sir Harry Pearce - assess whether LN is fit to return to work on the Grid at previous rank. Assessing officer - Diane Jewell, Head of Psychology, MI5 Rehabilitation Centre.

DJ: Why did you revert to speaking Russian for contacting the cell? Given everything that's happened.

LN: We needed a distraction. We knew the Chechnyans had been in contact with them, it was just the fastest way of getting a response. It worked, it gave us a chance to get Andy Sullivan out.

DJ: You seem up to date on things, all things considered. Knowing Al Qaeda had been in touch with Chechnyans, for instance.

LN: Considering I just spent eight years locked in a Russian cell, you mean? *hollow laugh*. Kachimov kept me fairly up to date during the many times he came to visit me. When I got back, Section D was it's usual efficient self in briefing people quickly. Nice to know some things haven't changed over the years.

DJ: Let's talk about Kachimov.

LN: *sigh* Okay.

DJ: You played a risky game, according to Sir Harry Pearce.

LN: That's what this is all about?

DJ: In part. He wants you back on the Grid, I just have to judge whether you are fit to be. Why did you do it?

LN: Kachimov hurt them, hurt Harry.

DJ: No revenge from your part?

LN: *pause* There may have been some, yes. Yes, part of me wanted to deliver Kachimov on a silver platter to Harry. Who wouldn't? I had a unique perspective on the man, I was prepared to use it.

DJ: Why didn't you tell Sir Harry what you had intended on doing?

LN: Because I took the opportunity as it presented itself. There wasn't exactly time for planning.

DJ: That's twice in a matter of a few days that you've worked something out on the fly.

LN: Is it? I suppose so.

DJ: Do you always work that way? Or is it just a reaction to being back? Something to prove, perhaps?

LN: I do what I have to. If people reacted in set ways every time I wouldn't need to make things up as I went along, but they don't. They are individuals, everything thinks different ways, sometimes you just need to... think fast.

DJ: And that's what you do?

LN: I'll always think of an inventive solution, if that's what you're asking.

Note attached to transcript.

I judge Lucas North as perfectly fit to return to the Grid. Recommend regular evaluation.
