Refried beans are my favorite kind, but I have attempted refried beans several times over the years with no success. Of course, I had to try again with the pressure cooker, so I used
Mel's Kitchen Cafe's
homemade refried beans recipe. These turned out great! I will definitely be making them again.
I forgot to buy garlic, so I just added some garlic powder.
Notes for the Breville:
The recipe called for 8 cups of water plus 4 cups of broth, but the Breville manual says not to fill the pot more than halfway when making beans because beans froth and the froth could clog the valves. So I used 4 cups of broth and then just filled the pot with water up to the halfway line. I used the factory BEAN setting, and it was perfect. At the final step, I didn't dump out enough water, so they turned out a bit watery. But I just put the pot back in and use the REDUCE setting, which I'm more and more glad to have, and that thickened up just great.
