The setting: Sun setting behind the mountains which was just past an old Laoation village which met the mekong river in the foreground. Doesn't get much prettier then that. By the river lying in hammocks sipping on beer - life is awesome right now.
We spot mushroom shakes on the menu but decide to have dinner first and find a couple more people to hang out with before coming back to the "Sunset Bar".
We recruit a couple of Australians to join us on our Mushroom shake adventure. We start off on the beer and delve straight into the mushroom shakes. All is well until about midnight when they switch off the light in our lil hut so we make our way to the campfire that needs to be re-ignited. Once the flame starts to roar in the pitch black background we overhear a dutch guy and a few others singing 80s music and a bunch of sea shantis and of course "yellow submarine". The one dutch guy though amazingly knows all the words of every song and we can't seem to fathom it. Nonetheless it is the funniest thing hearing a dutch accent sing all these british songs word for word, we can't get enough of it.
We call out to him: "Oi dutch guy, what's your name!" Absolutely NO response. We try and try again until one of us goes up to him and asks him personally how a dutch bloke knows all the words to every song.
Turns out he was Irish!
Anyways going inner tubing down the river today and doing some kayaking and cliff jumping on the way back to Vientiane tomorrow.
more mushroom cakes along the way me thinks.
