Emiri winced. "That's coming on a little too strong, isn't it, Simca-san?"
"Not at all!" The pink-haired girl shook a finger at her. "He's the kind of person who just won't catch on or even get the faintest idea of catching on without a little help~! You don't want to lose him, do you, Emiri-chan?"
"Of course not!" was the swift reply. "But--"
"And you have nice legs, too. If you can get into a situation where you can flaunt it, he'll be all yours, I'm sure of it!"
Eyes bright with resolution, Emiri nodded.
The next day found the two girls conversing again.
"So you were bathing and the monkeys stole your towel?"
"Yeah. And Kazu-sama heard me scream, so he came running."
"And?" Simca's eyes lit up and she giggled. "Did he finally notice?"
Emiri didn't look as if she knew whether to laugh or cry, pressing a hand to her mouth. "Actually," she mumbled, "he was so worried that I'd gotten hurt that he didn't even notice I was naked at first."
"....." Never had Simca felt more sympathy for a fellow female than she did just then. Poor Emiri just couldn't seem to get Kazu to notice her on a level higher than friendship.
"But," Emiri continued thoughtfully, "he blushed and stammered and let me wear his shirt. And he didn't notice because he was worried about me. So I'm not giving up yet!"
Simca relaxed, stretching her arms over her head. "That's the spirit~! Next you have to sneak into his hammock--"
"....."
When Kazu woke up one night to discover a sleeping Emiri snuggled against him, his first reaction was to blink.
"... Huh. If you're cold, Adachi, you could've just said so."
But he let her stay, draping an arm over her to keep her from falling out of the hammock, and gradually went back to sleep, while failing to notice the person peeking into the hut.
"Uhuhuhu," Simca chuckled to herself, heading back to the inn. "Just as planned~~"
