"... Huh??"
"I..." It was rare to see Yukina look this quietly upset, and Yusuke leaned forward to hear her better, resting his palms on his knees. "I really thought Hiei-san was my brother, but--" She sighed, missing the choking sound her friend made. "When I asked him to be truthful... he said he wasn't. And I don't want to think he's lying, but if it was because of me, or if I somehow offended him--"
"Are you kiddin' me?" The boy rose to his feet, scowling angrily at the ceiling. "That dumbass, he really--"
"Yusuke-san?" Yukina ventured uncertainly, wondering if she'd said something wrong. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to upset you!"
Yusuke snorted. "Look, Yukina, you couldn't even upset a fly. Hiei's just too much of an idiot... guess he's been hanging around Kuwabara too much."
The Koorime looked at him blankly, and he sighed, dropping a hand on her head. "You're not a bad sister. Hell, you've been like a little sister to all of us, you know? If anything, I bet your brother's the one worrying that he's not good enough for you."
Yukina's ruby eyes widened. "That's not--"
"Yeah, I know, but what can you do?" Yusuke ruffled her hair, giving her a warm smile. "You're brave, Yukina. Don't worry anymore, all right? You didn't do a single thing wrong." With that said, he shoved his hands in his pockets and sauntered towards the door. "I'll be right back. I think your Niisan and I need to have a little chat..."
If Yukina was stunned when Hiei sheepishly approached her the next day and mumbled apologies about lying to her, she hid it well.
