What I did on my Summer Vacation

If you go by this entry, you'd think all I did was look at barns.  I took a lot of pictures of barns while I was back east, mostly because my mum and Bill discovered a barn tour that happened to be taking place on the Saturday that I was visiting.  I'm really pleased (and a little surprised) by how well some of my pictures turned out.  I selected ( Read more... )

I have pictures of our lovelies, too, but not the brainpower to post them last night as well...

Besides, they might have looked a little out of place with all the old woodwork.

And, honestly, most of them are. But they still need stone or brick foundations (sticking wood in the ground as a foundation, and the wood would rot quite quickly-- stone doesn't have that problem) And when I say that a barn is a 'brick barn' that is a little misleading. The huge barn in the first photos has two brick walls, the walls on the ends-- the rest is wood, except for the foundation, of course, which is more brick. And, of course, all the timber inside is, well... timber.

either way, it's a HELL of a lot more brick than you're gonna see on ANY structure out here in earthquake land ;p
