First and most importantly, thank you so much for all the birthday well wishes, cards and gifts. While I knew beforehand how awesome my flist is, this kindness dramatically reminded me. I tried very hard to thank everyone individually, but on the off-chance I missed replying to a post, please know how appreciated the attention was.
Secondly, this is a post about writing, specifically
Supernatural/J2 Big Bang. I fear I'm not going to be able to participate this year. This saddens me because writing Redemption for last year's BB is one of the highlights of my fannish life. There are a lot of things to blame for my dropping out, most notably my puppy.
Oliver is a sweetheart. He has enriched my life in ways I can't even count. But in a lot of ways, he's like a small child. He needs attention. I can't come home from work, after having left him alone for 10 hours, and expect he's going to let me sit at my computer for four to six hours more (and that was the kind of schedule I put in when writing Redemption--I'm not very fast!).
Of course I'm going to continue writing. Since getting Ollie, I've completed five stories, one of them BB length. And I'd truly believed I'd be able to meet my deadline with this newest story. But the wrist injury didn't help. Typing hurt for the longest time (still does, actually--I'm using voice recognition software these days), then I had surgery, and for weeks I'd put things off. At this point, I have an outline for this year's BB story and a few scenes written. If I didn't have the dog, I could pound out 20,000 words by May 1st. With the dog--it ain't gonna happen.
So instead, I'm focusing on other projects. Not that I think anyone out there is necessarily paying attention anymore, but I think I'm finally going to tackle those time stamps for Redemption I'd said I was going to write, but then never did anything about. They should be shorter in length and more doable.
Secondly (and I'm really excited about this!), I'm going to start writing the western/mail order groom story
I'd kicked around online ages ago. I'd decided not to try and write this for this year's BB, because I have a feeling it will run Redemption length, and I knew as soon as Oliver walked in the door last September that I wasn't going to have that kind of time. But, even after choosing a more manageable BB story to work on, it was this storyline that kept coming back to me, this plot that kept conjuring new scenes inside my brain. So I'm going to start working on it and begin posting it as a WIP. Back in the day, I wrote several of these in XF, and while most took months, they were all eventually finished. I'm hoping readers will be patient with me this time. I can't promise I'll post weekly, but I feel pretty darned confident they'll wind up with a completed story.
That's all the news that's fit to print (or not!). Happy Saturday, everyone. And thanks again. :-)
