Hi. This is one of those I'm still alive posts. I don't have any grand pronouncements or anything. My show is still on hiatus (but it comes back on my birthday--yay!). I'm working like the dickens on my SPN Big Bang story, and what little extra free time I've had has been spent obsessing over things like luge and the Nordic Combined. How have you all been?
I may need to rethink the whole 'Yay! We're closed for a week due to snow of biblical proportions' thing. Because coming back to work, everything was insane! My first week back, I wrote to the lovely
callistosh65 and
debbiel at the end of it, "I got up at 4:00am Tuesday and Wednesday, 4:30am on Thursday and 5:00am on Friday to try and keep up." (Normally, I'm more of a 7:00am wake-up kind of gal). This week was slightly better (only one predawn rising). I've been literally falling unconscious in front of the TV at night.
I adore the Olympics, have done ever since I was a wee lass (and I actually prefer the winter games to the summer ones). But they're exhausting. Three and a half to four hours of television a night, and the network always keeps the event you want to see most for the end of the telecast (though admittedly, sometimes they're simply televising what they can live). It'll be a relief tomorrow night when it's all done, even though it's been a wonderful Games.
Yet I can't only blame the Olympics. School has ramped up. Midterm grades were due yesterday. So I was writing tests and grading papers and tests. I used to teach in a format where I met once a week with my students for three hours and forty minutes. It was grueling to try and come up with enough interesting content to make that time worthwhile. Now, I'm meeting with them on a more normal schedule of 75 minutes twice a week. Prep is really a breeze. I almost always have too much content. But assignments seem to roll around more quickly. I'm teaching a Lit class, which I love (I was a Theatre major, English minor with my Ph.D.). But I've 25 kids in the class. You multiply that by papers of 3-5 pages each and that's a heck of a lot of reading and commenting.
I need a vacation. :-)
This week is Spring Break, so though I'll be working, I get a break from teaching. Phew! Now, I have a little bit of time to focus on my BB fic. I've got 7,800 words written so far. I figure it's going to run 50,000ish when all is said and done. In honor of this process, I'm switching out my usual icon. I always go with Watts' Hope because a) I like it *g*; b) having used it as long as I have, it kind of feels like "me" now. But with BB madness upon us, I have to indulge in some of the really fun icons out there. I have a feeling, especially as the deadline creeps closer and closer, they will become more and more fitting.
I need to get cracking. ;-)
Hope you all are well.
