Great chapter! I can't help but feel sorry for Richard in every post SR fic...but it's either that or have Clark and Lois apart and unhappy for the rest of their lives! Oh, well... ;)

You're right -- I had to wrestle for a long time with the whole Richard situation. He's a great guy, a real hero, but Lois doesn't really love him like she should and I hope that there's a happy ending out there for him, but with someone else. . . .

That's the problem! He is a great guy, who deserves real love, and Lois obviously doesn't love him! But it makes me mad to think that she settled with him because she was pregnant, even knowing deep down that she didn't love him, that makes me a bit mad at her - or actually, Bryan Singer. OK, she probably thought he WAS Jason's father, having no recollection of the time Jason was concieved, but if they didn't love each other... Not to mention that Clark coming back and getting in the way of an apparent healthy family and destroying them...GAH!
Ok, don't mind me, I've been thinking over this, running in circles, ever since - or rather, BEFORE - the movie came out! No wonder I never wrote a post-SR fic, preferring to stick to the SR timeline - I just don't know how to deal with Richard! XD

I know what you mean. I was thwarted in trying to start this story for four months, turning over and over and over in my mind the whole situation with Richard. I like Richard. I don't want to turn Richard into a nasty, evil troll (as I've seen in a few stories). I also don't want to kill him off because I want to write him a bit. So, argh! Hard stuff ( ... )

Exactly! There is no safe route, or completely a happy route to follow. We know Richard is a good guy, and that Lois thought she was in love with him and that Jason was his. But she realized she is still in love with Super and Jason is his son, so what do you do with Richard? "Sorry, honey, I thought Jason was yours but now I suddenly got my memory back and remembered he isn't?" Not to mention that he won't simply step away from Lois and leave the path clear for Super/Clark - that's what I like about Barbara's fic. Clark and Lois have A LOT of issues by themselves, add Richard and you have a writer's headache ahead! Easy to see the issues, not so easy to see the way out! XD

Yes, it's a great feature of Déjà Vu that Barbara's retained Richard and integrated him into the ongoing storyline. Not that I don't like the other options (I thought that Bisty's use of Richard's tragic death as a focus for ongoing tension and regret in the first part of her story was wonderful -- still do!).

But I really hate Bryan Singer, sometimes, for introducing such a likeable character to whom we have to deal such a blow!

Oh, yeah, I LOVE Bisty's fic as well for that exact reason - we have Richard out of the way for Lois and Clark to be together. Not only that, but mainly because we can focus more on their issues - but he is not completely out of the way because they both feel guilty for his death and because they weren't totally honest with him and all that.

I love both fics, it's hard to choose a favorite! ;)

I sometimes hate Bryan Singer because he sort of made Lois look like a $lut. X|

Oh, and adding you as a friend. We have a lot of interests in common and I realize I've seen you round a lot of other places besides LJ.

No, that's right! I was at SQ a lot. Then I started having all sorts of problems with the site crashing my browser and stopped visiting so much. But still a R/Hr fan!
