More picspam for, lo!, I am weak (and I am still working on icons for an icon post!).
Some wags have dubbed Superman Returns, The Passion of Superman, and while I think that goes a bit far, I do love the images that Singer's used to emphasize the modern mythos and messianic flavour of this character. So here's another series of images from the movie (spoilery, naturally!)
Setting the scenes: Superman's been overcome by his kryptonite stabbing and the strain of sending New Krypton into orbit. He loses consciousness and plummets back to Earth, conveniently landing in a Metropolis park. From there, he's rescued and brought to a hospital where they remove the last piece of kryptonite from his wound. It heals but he doesn't awake. Cut to the headline which scared the heck outta me when I saw it on screen.
I finish this up with the wonderful fairytale reversal -- the hero is fallen and it's the heroine who comes to his rescue. Lois's kiss doesn't instantly revive Superman (that would be a bit too cliched, I admit) but we're clearly seeing a significant moment when she seems to have finally let go of the hurt and resentment that drove her earlier interactions with Superman. And it's pretty. So there!
realtanala also shares some of my obsession with the prettiness that is Superman Returns. In that vein she's made some lovely icon, header and graphic posts:
