MCU fic: Breathe
This fic was originally published over a year ago... I call it going back to my hurt/comfort roots. ;-)

Summary: Tony catches the cold making the rounds of the compound, but for him it's not as simple as a common cold.
Written for the
avengerkink prompt: I'm feeling a bit low and in the mood for some Tony hurt/comfort.
I'd prefer this to be set after Civil War but a bit of an AU because they are living back together at the compound. And, although it's still new and tense and there are a lot of hurt feeling they are trying to become a family again.
Tony in particular is finding it hard having everyone back in the compound and is spending a lot of time alone.
There's a bit of a cold virus going around and although it hits the kids and the standard humans most of the Avengers are immune. Tony gets hit by it but tries to ignore it and doesn't want the other to know as he doesn't want to be seen as a bother.
It gets to a point where he can't ignore it any more and goes to the common areas to get some medicine. Rhodey takes one look at him and calls the compound's doctor. This causes a lot of (friendly) mocking from the others and (not so friendly mocking) from Clint, because who goes to the doctors for a cold. But after a quick examination from the doctor he immediately calls for an ambulance because it turns out that spending years with a huge bit of metal in your chest decreases lung capacity and hurts the immune system so Tony is very susceptible to any virus. In fact they can very easily be life threatening.
Tony has to spend some time in hospital and when he gets back all he is very much mother henned and looked after by the others. Especially Clint.
Bonuses-
+ When the doctor calls for an ambulance they all expect Tony to argue but he just nods his head. This makes the other realise how serious it is.
+ While waiting for the ambulance Tony takes a turn for the worse and becomes very weak. Rhodey is there to hold his hand and give him a cuddle. (I am a sucker for any brotherly affection between these two.)
+ Maybe there's even a scene where Rhodey brushes his hair back and puts a cold pack on his forehead.
+ Tony has to be given his nebuliser. Assume that he's had to use one before because of his reduced lung capacity. The others have never seen his need it before.
+ At some point the Doctors are genuinely worried that Tony wont make it.
+ When he returns he is still recovering but there is more cuddles with Rhodey. Also with Clint's kids who are glad to see their Uncle Tony back.
If any of you lovely authors take this on I would like the focus to be on Tony's medical issues reminding them all that they are a family, they love each other and should look out for each other. Also please no pathetic or bullied Tony. They are hurt by what happened but want to heal their relationship and Tony is not a 13 year old.
