So I thought I was doing poorly when I
nearly forgot Maia's birthday... and then I completely forgot
Hana's birthday until several days after the fact. Even though I had her birthday be The Birthday (9/22 for the non-LotR folks) to help me remember when it was. *facepalm* But anyway, my fluffy baby kitten is now 2 and as cute and fluffy as ever. :)
In my defense, I've been busy. Especially on Monday, when I was away from home from around 7:30 a.m. until after 10 p.m. (sadly, that is the usual Monday routine when I have orchestra practice, but in this case I was quite busy during the workday as well). But work is starting to calm down now that we're about a month into the fall semester... well, perhaps I shouldn't say that. Me having to prep for class visits is calming down--after Tuesday, I've only got a handful scattered toward the end of October and one in November. And none of those will require altering my usual work hours, hooray!
I suspect, however, that having time to be back out on the reference desk will just shift the workload from prepping for classes to working with individual students who remember they saw me but don't remember what I told them. ;-) And several faculty have been emphasizing appointments with me in addition to (or instead of) class sessions, which makes the students more comfortable with approaching me outside of those more "official" meetings. Which is awesome, don't get me wrong! It's just a different type of busy (and sometimes a more challenging type of busy!) and I have a cataloging backlog I don't even want to look at, to say nothing of the endless list of things on my 'when I can get to it' to do list. :-p
But really, life is good. I'd rather be too busy than bored out of my mind (hello, job security!), but it would be nice to have time for things like Twitter again. (The sad thing? I use Twitter primarily to keep up on library people... so even that is technically job-related.) On those rare evenings/weekends when I am at home, I've been focusing a good bit of effort on the cross-stitch for the arrival of the baby nephew, since December will be coming sooner rather than later and it's nice to have a break from the computer. ;-) I also try to indulge the whims of the felines, which usually means pettings and/or cuddles on demand. They do miss me when I'm away (and I miss them of course!), and they're so sweet about wanting to be near me when I get home. ♥
