Any Port in a Pot

Aug 12, 2010 22:37

So... I have discovered somewhat recently that adding a bit of Madeira wine to a slow cooker adds a very pleasant richness to the resulting stew. But I'm out of Madeira wine, so what to do?

I do have a bottle of 20 year old tawney port I could use. But this seems somewhat criminal (and a bit pricey). However, the closest grocery store has an "ontario wine" store. Maybe they could help? And yup, they do have port... Brights 74 Port. It's 9$. hmmmm.... so I think "meh, it's for cooking" and I buy it.

Of course, I got curious and thought "maybe it's not so bad?". So I poured myself a small glass.

I now feel sorry for the poor bastards who get get drunk on the stuff. I'm not sure this is is even fit for cooking! So yeah, this is definitely a pass.
