December 8th. 4:12 PM.
Eli didn’t know if they were ever going to talk again or if their bet, or game, or whatever they called it, was ever going to be finished.
Not in the near future, by the looks of it, as Kevin was determined to give him the silent treatment until further notice.
He was better at ignoring people than Eli had predicted; the older had always thought that Kevin was too weak to actually resist the urge, or too emotionally attached not to just give in. Apparently Eli had been more than wrong when thinking that all he had to do is be patient and wait for the other to make the first move. Kevin’s stubbornness was pretty much impossible to break, since even making eye contact with him had been the challenge of Eli’s life.
Four days without talking proved to be the definition of strenuous. Their gazes would occasionally meet and, for that two-second instant, Eli truly believed that he could spot something hidden in Kevin’s look. A mixture of regret and longing, before turning cold again and restoring himself to distantness and indifference. What was worse, Eli couldn’t figure out if the daggers his eyes threw were real or pretended.
Obviously Kiseop was the first to notice, since his retired self and constant careful watching every movement of those around him could only mean that nothing was to escape his sight. And since Kevin was slowly turning himself unapproachable, Kiseop went straight to Eli for inside scoop.
‘Water?’ he asked, handing out the half-full plastic bottle to Eli.
‘Um, yeah, thanks.’ He flipped a strand of hair from his eyes, before starting to drink. ‘The sweat from my forehead made you feel such pity for me that you had to come over here and offer me hydration?’
‘What do you mean?’ Kiseop furrowed his brows.
‘He is such a bad liar.’ Eli thought, as he took a peek across the practice room, just in time to notice Kevin looking away.
‘Well, I’m referring to how you never offer anything to anybody.’ Eli grinned. ‘Not saying that you don’t want to share, just that you’re normally not the first to ask someone if they need something.’
‘That’s not true.’ Kiseop seemed offended. ‘I like helping. It’s… nice.’
Eli laughed.
‘Seop, you always wait for people to ask you for stuff. I’m not saying you don’t like to help, just that, I don’t know, you don’t really realize when you’re supposed to ask someone if they need help. I’m not accusing you of crap, I just noticed it a couple of times.’
‘Oh.’ Kiseop looked at the floor and back at him. ‘For someone who claims to never care about what others say, you sure do pay a lot of attention.’
It was Kiseop’s turn to grin all-knowingly and for Eli to avoid his stare.
‘I’m not that self-centered as many think. Speaking of which, I know you came here for a reason.’
‘Yeah, to give you water. You sweat like a pig.’
‘Look who’s talking. You should turn off your irrigation system, the shirt you’re wearing already darkened its color from all the water left out. And boy, looks like more is on its way.’
They both started laughing loudly and Eli truly felt satisfaction when Kevin appeared both curious and jealous of them. Eli faked not to care, as his attention redressed on Kiseop.
‘Seriously now, ask me. I think I know what you’re dying to find out.’
‘I’m just concerned about Kevin. If I compare you two, you’re doing much better in dealing with all of this than him. I mean, he still talks with everybody, but not as much as before. And he…’
‘Wait a sec.’ Eli stopped him. ‘What do you mean “all of this”? What’s “this”?’
‘Eli, come on. I know you’re not dumb, and neither are we. Everyone noticed that you went from being basically Kevin’s twin, to like strangers or something, overnight. He wouldn’t even open up to Dongho, who is known for being able to keep a secret.’
‘Alright… and your concern in all these is what, exactly?’ Eli tried to sound as non-accusatory as possible.
‘None, but I’m just saying. Do you need help with anything? Could you at least try and talk to me about it?’
‘Look, as long as it’s not affecting the group, I don’t see why-’
‘You’re wrong.’ Kiseop interrupted him. ‘It is affecting all of us.’
‘How the hell is that?’
‘Because we’re not just some group, we’re a family. We’re friends above members of the same band and frankly, the tension between you two has started to spread.’
Eli took another sip from the bottle and they both sat on the floor with their legs crossed.
‘Started to spread?’ he repeated Kiseop’s words. ‘In what way?’
‘Well, put yourself in our shoes. If, say, Kibum and Soohyun had a fight and wouldn’t talk for like a week, would you like it? And if one of them was on the verge of depression, would you be okay with it? You’d have to be constantly vigilant about who you address to, and in what circumstances, not to offend the other. And if the other sees you, you get this paranoid feeling that they’re judging you or hating you for talking with your enemy.’
‘We’re not enemies, we…’
‘I know, but it’s hard for us, too. Maybe not as hard as it is for you and him, but still. A group in which two of the members are not on speaking terms is not really a group, let’s face it. Maybe the others won’t admit this out loud, but I know they’re tired of pretending, just like I am. We don’t like this, and we talked about this for like, hours, yet still came to no conclusion. We want to help and stop feeling so useless, but we’re also afraid not to mess things up harder. And-’
‘Kiseop, stop. Stop right now.’
Kiseop looked at him worriedly and inhaled. He took the water from Eli’s hands and drank it all up, before tossing it aside and playing with the bracelet on his wrist.
‘Sorry.’ He mumbled in the end.
Eli rubbed his eyes and got up, excusing himself to the others that he wasn’t feeling good and had to get some air. He then stormed out, but not before noticing Kevin throwing him a worried look.

Well of course alcohol isn’t the answer, Eli thinks, as he finishes the first bottle of beer. He’s still sober enough to think somewhat straight, but since he never got drunk in the real sense of the word and seldom drank any type of alcohol, his body isn’t particularly used to the sudden influx of this kind-of-foreign liquid.
He put the bottle down and opened the second one with his teeth. The aluminum cap hurt his gums and made them bleed for a few seconds, but he was quick to wash everything down his throat with more beer.
Less than an hour later, with his head spinning and the eyesight half-blurry, he went to the bathroom to empty his bladder, leaving four empty glass bottles lying on the carpet, two out of which beads of fluid mixed with saliva were still drooping.
Without washing his hands or flushing the toilet, he knew that the next stop once he got out was Kevin’s room. Incapable of thinking straight (or walking on an even line, for that matter), Eli had no particular feeling about this. He didn’t know why he was going to him, just that he simply had to see him and there were no other options.
Walking half-leaned on the wall the entire time, squinting his eyes so he can see in the dark -although it’s of no use whatsoever- he stumbles upon a pair of house slippers (or at least that’s what they seem to be) and finally reaches Kevin’s door. He counts one more time, just to be sure it’s the last one on the right, then enters.
Kevin is sleeping facing him, while the digital clock on his nightstand shows 1:38 AM.
Eli stops in the middle of the room, unsure of what he’s really doing, then goes by the window. He looks out and only sees a parking lot and concrete, then retakes his place and almost crashes on the floor. Clueless like a child lost in the supermarket by his mother, he crawls to the bed and rests his head on the edge, near Kevin’s arm. The younger twitches slightly, maybe because of the ticklish sensation of Eli’s hair on his skin, but the rhythmic breathing and no further moving indicates that he’s still sound asleep.
The twitch awakens something inside Eli, something he can’t really identify but knows he has to do something about it, before the tension builds to such extent he loses his temper.
He takes some good two to three minutes to untie his sweatpants, then pulls them down carelessly and takes his shirt off. Even without the clothes on, the air suddenly feels much hotter. Barely capable of standing back up, he tries his best to climb in, fails, tries again, fails.
He starts laughing louder than he should have, as Kevin slowly opens his eyes.

‘I can’t fucking believe this.’ Kevin whispers to himself, as he’s trying to redirect Eli to his own room, as silently as possible, along the wall.
‘Who the fuck came up with the brilliant idea to make this goddamn corridor so goddamn long...’
‘Haha, you said goddamn twice, haha.’ Eli’s voice echoed through the living room.
‘Crap, could you just shut your mouth already?’ Kevin hissed, trying to sustain both him and the older, who was even heavier thanks to the mass of alcohol inside him.
‘But it’s so funneh, haha… I mean, who the fuck says fuck twice… I mean goddamn. Oops, haha. I’ve also said fuck twice.’
‘Shh.’ Kevin placed a finger on his lips, thanking all heavens that they had finally reached his door. He practically pushed Eli inside, threw him on the bed and gently closed the door behind them.
It was bad enough that he had to dress him back less than ten minutes before, as his lover kept flailing his arms and muttering something about how he didn’t want to. And it was even worse that he mounted Kevin in a flash, carrying nothing but his underwear and a full-on erection. As much as Kevin had missed that, the very brief and uncoordinated thrusting that Eli had performed wasn’t much of a turn on, since the mixed smell of beer and sweat made him feel disgusted.
If the dressing up proved to be difficult, the undressing had been a piece of cake, especially with such a cooperative and willing to obey Eli. And he also seemed to be under the impression that they were going to continue what had started in Kevin’s room, since as soon as the younger got under the covers with him, he began caressing and touching him all over. Not even squeezing his manhood helped, as Kevin rose in the next instant and barged out.
‘It was too fucking unbearable.’ He thought, as he immediately went for a glass of cold water. Not only the heat Eli was indulging in, but also the horrific smells that appeared to be coming from all places.
Kevin sighed and ran his fingers through the messy hair.

‘The hell, Eli. The fuck is all of this?’ a rough, manly voice made itself heard.
The sudden noise made Eli feel like electrocuted and scared him awake, before slowly turning towards the door of his room. There, with glaring eyes that didn’t seem to believe what they were looking at and nostrils so dilated they resembled a dragon’s, U-Kiss’ manager was clearly fighting the urge to burst into angry shouts.
‘Ah, crap.’ Was all Eli could mutter before standing up like a torpedo. The hasty rising hadn’t been a smart move, as the whole room started spinning. He instantly sat on the edge of the bed again.
‘Crap indeed. What did you do last night?’ the man asked fumingly.
‘I, um.’ Eli managed to say before noticing the floor, which was practically decorated with empty beer bottles.
‘Well, fuck. I’m never getting out of this.’
‘You what, Eli? You fucking what?’
‘I’m really sorry, I didn’t know what I was doing and before I knew it-’
‘You didn’t know what you were doing? The hell are you, Eli, a kid? You were supposed to be in the practice room hours ago, it’s past noon. Did you even bother to set an alarm before deciding to get drunk like a tramp?’
Eli looked at the mini clock on his nightstand in horror. He had missed an entire day of rehearsing and knew he had to make up for it double.
‘I didn’t think it was gonna get out of control-’
‘You have obligations. You have responsibilities. You signed a goddamn contract, boy. And as much as I hate to break it down to you, not only are you disappointing your fans and company by doing this, you’re also letting down your team mates. Which is, really, the shittiest thing you could possibly do.’
‘I know and I am sorry. I promise it won’t happen again.’
‘Oh, it won’t, I’ll take care of that. And why the hell did you do it, anyway? Give me one good reason.’
‘I don’t have any.’
‘What was that?’
‘I said I don’t have any, Sir.’
‘Of course you don’t. Kibum and Soohyun will move out of their room, you’ll move in with Kevin. He’ll keep an eye on you.’
‘But, I already promised it won’t happen again, I swear, I-’
‘Don’t you dare say anything else, Ellison. I’ve already decided. Clean this mess, take your stuff and switch rooms. In this fucking instant, am I making myself clear?’
‘Yes.’
‘What’s that?’
‘Yes, Sir, you are.’
‘Good. And take a shower, for God’s sake, then open a window. It smells like a stable in here.’
After manager Shin stormed out, Eli simply crashed his face in the pillow and deeply inhaled the warm, dusty air from it.
He only saw trouble ahead.
