Fandom: Soul Eater
Timeline: Post chapter 62
Age: 27-30?

~*Magical*~ abilities and strengths:
Stein is a Meister who carries the ability to wield any type of weapon due to his impressive soul wavelength, which is a very rare feat (it makes him quite accomplished and powerful in his own right). According to Lord Death, Stein was the most powerful technician ever to graduate from Shibusen. He also holds the power to view people's souls, which generally means he's pretty good at reading people and their power levels (especially if they're over 9000). Even though he remains an impressive Meister, Stein has a large amount of power even when he isn't using a Weapon. Just with observing, he can match any soul wavelength to his own and disrupt their attacks, create a shield or even send a powerful electrical current back towards his opponents.

Not exactly an ability, but he is a doctor and he's very interested in anatomy, be it human, plant or animal. He loves to take things apart, discover how they work, and then patch it back up (usually with some lazy stitching, which can be seen all over his clothes and even on the right side of his face).

If he has a wheelie chair, he will fall over in it whenever he leaves. Every time.

Appearance:
The first thing one would notice with Stein is that he has a large, metal bolt going straight through his head. Whilst some might think that would hinder his thinking in quite a large way, it's not true-- he remains (somewhat) sane, and even intelligent. He has grey hair, and he wears a pair of rounded glasses that sit over alarmingly green eyes. Along the right side of his face, he has a stitch running across his cheek where he experimented on himself (he also has stitches running across his torso and presumably all over his body).

He wears a lab coat and a simple grey and black sweater underneath it, all of which have stitches covering seams and even random places Stein had decided to cut into. When he needs to do some seriously deep thinking, he turns the bolt on his head to wind his concentration up a notch.

He often has a cigarette either hanging from his lips or in between his fingers.

Background/Personality:

Stein has a very curious mind. He's constantly keeping himself under wraps so that he won't lash out and experiment on everything. He wants to dissect and figure out how everything and everyone works, he wants to pull it all apart and put it back together again so that he can understand the big mystery behind it. With such an inquisitive mind, it's hard for him to block out sensory violations-- it takes a very active effort to hold himself in check and ignore his inner wishes. During his days at Shibusen, he terrified his peers with his strange personality and thirst for knowledge. The only person willing to speak with him was Spirit, and that lead to their five year partnership.

Even though he has a psychotic personality, after years of suppressing it, he's learned to appreciate and even care about those around him. The relationship between him and Spirit, although somewhat strange, is a good example; despite their oddities, the two ex-partners have remained best friends throughout most of their lives. He also cares for Maka (Spirit's daughter) and her group of friends, going as far as to lead them into battle willingly and trusting their skills as Meister and Weapon. As a teacher in Shibusen, his methods remained unorthodox but in general, he was very informative and quite a valuable source of information (when he wasn't ordering the class to dissect an animal moving into extinction because it would be a shame for it to become extinct before he'd studied it properly, at least).

Stein is a very bizarre man, and it really doesn't take much to unhinge him, especially with such a large amount of insanity already residing within him. With Medusa's influence, Stein slowly begins to lose his mind to the urge of dissection and studying. Steins Weapon, Marie Mjolnir (who had been assigned her position due to her calming wavelength in hopes to help Stein remain in control of his sanity) had ingested one of Medusa's snakes, which meant that when Stein and Marie's souls combined, Stein would be overpowered by Medusa's insanity. In one instance, the insanity became so much that he couldn't even fight, instead collapsing from the exertion.

Through his powers of observation, Stein recognized Medusa (feigning as a nurse at Shibusen), and approached her to dance whilst pretending to be drunk to gain the upper hand and ask her about her plans in regards to the revival of the Kishin. She asks him to join her, the two being attracted to each other due to their interest in science and doing things they shouldn't, and just as they're about to kiss Sid arrives. Medusa takes this distraction in her stride and escapes, locking the entire Shibusen school in the celebration hall to keep them from ruining her plans. Sid and Stein, however, find a way of escaping and do so with Maka, Black Star, Kid, Soul, Tsubaki and Patti & Liz.

He uses this chance to explain the situation to the children and in order to buy time, he battles with Medusa. Their fighting is very stiff, both using attacks to damage the other and gain the upper hand. Later, Stein realized that Medusa was buying time, and with that information he began to loosen up, but in doing so he invited his sadistic attitude to take effect. He took this chance to explain about his past and how his madness began to swell up in search for power, but he realized that he hated who he had become and he stopped himself from pursuing anything more. This leads onto him declining her offer, stating that he needed rules and boundaries set by a higher being to keep him in his place. Stein quickly uses Soul Menace to force Medusa down, but in doing so he caused himself damage. As soon as Medusa attacks him using Snake's Tail, Stein uses Soul Stitching, which leaves them both in a stalemate. When Medusa lets her guard down due to the failed attempt at killing the Kinshin off by the children, Stein seizes his opening and finishes her off. Refusing to let go easily, however, Medusa's torso crawls up Stein's body and she bites down onto his shoulder. She proceeds to mock him by telling him she had fallen in love with him, but Stein doesn't rise to her bait, instead taking his chance to end her by piercing her heart. He explains that anyone as twisted as they are couldn't even begin to understand love.

Whilst Medusa had set his slow decline into insanity off, it was the Kishin's revival that pushed him off of the edge. He claimed that once the Kishin had been brought back, he could truly feel the insanity within him start boiling over. After Medusa's death, Stein's grip on reality suffered a large blow as he was constantly haunted by the image of Medusa and her ideals. It became so bad that Lord Death ordered for Stein to be under house arrest, where he stayed until he met with Buttataki Joe to undergo questioning about a traitor being in Shibusen.

When his unbalanced sanity takes a hold of him, he's almost unstoppable in his chaos, his desire to rip everything apart and study it in great detail far too pressing to simply ignore. Stein was fighting against his insanity, but he knew he was losing. During this time, he was accused of murdering Buttataki Joe. Spirit and Sid were supposed to capture Stein and take him to Shinigami, but instead they let him leave with Marie, believing him to be innocent.

The two disappeared for a long time, only resurfacing once they'd found the true murderer (Justin Law), who happened to be on the outskirts of Death City. Justin confessed to everything, explaining his reasons, and when it became time for battle Justin fled using an artifact. Thankfully, Stein had recorded their conversation in order to give proof of his innocence. Now knowing what they knew, they returned to Shibusen to apologize to Lord Death along with Spirit. Unfortunately, when Stein offered the tape up to Lord Death, they realized that Justin's loud music he had set up was the only thing picked up by the microphone, so he opts to explain his logic and reasoning behind tracking Justice down. Lord Death believes his story and reappoints him as a teacher of Shibusen, and on his first day back he renames the "Shibu-kids Squad's" to Spartoi.

1st person sample:
[As the video clicks on, Stein peers into the camera with a very keen expression on his face. The light from the screen reflects eerily off of his glasses, and he raises a single eyebrow as he studies the device.]

Hmm? Is this the network communicator I was told about?

[He smiles then and twists it in his grip, the screen showing two white shoes with stitch marks over the toes.]

It looks so complex.

[His eyes glanced over the guide with pure interest, and it can be safely assumed that when the screen begins to go fuzzy and the picture starts to jump before fading to black, Stein is working his way into the inner mechanics of his new toy.]

3rd person sample:

Clak-clak-clak-clak.

The sound disrupted the otherwise silent room, and Stein had barely noticed the glares being sent in his direction as he scribbled his way through the forms. One hand remained upon the bolt going straight through his head, whilst the other held a pen and filled the form out at an alarming speed. He was silent as he worked, sitting in a nearby wheelie chair that he wheeled to and fro every now and then as he thought of complex answers. With every question, Stein turned the screw forcefully as he considered every possible answer he could jot down. As a result, Stein took much longer than others might have with their paperwork, and when it was done, he relaxed back against his chair and let out a long sigh.

With his brand new towel in his lap and his guide lining the inside of his pockets, Stein was all set to leave. He had his room number memorized and it wouldn't take too long to figure out the way the ships navigational system worked. He planted his feet flatly against the opposite wall and pushes against it hard, springing himself and the wheelie chair he sat on through the crowded office, across the cold flooring and over the threshold-

Crash.

... Okay, not quite over the threshold.

Questions?: Stein is very interested in dissection, obviously-- he'd want to pull the guide apart and see how it works. Would that be allowed? He'd patch it right back up again afterwards!
