My Favourite Fest Fics... so far
Okay, I've been reading a number of the fest fics and I just felt the need to make note of some of the ones I've enjoyed the most. I've enjoyed quite a few, but these ones are my faves. (In no particular order except the 1st one)
Rise From the Ashes (Teddy/Cedric -Epilogue-Compliant) - Of all the fest fics I've read, this is my absolute favourite! I think it will be a very hard job to top this one in my eyes. I just completely love it! And it's not even H/D!! I'm a sucker for any fics that include time travel (or travel to alternate realities). Well those that are done well, at any rate. And this one is a really well-done time travel fic. I absolutely fell in love with both Teddy and Cedric! This was just such a lovely story. It amused me, it titillated me, it broke my heart, and it put it all back together again for a truly satisfying conclusion.
Fade to Silver (Harry/Draco - Epilogue-Ambiguous) Another one of my weaknesses is memory loss fics. Again, if done well, and this is a well-written, tightly woven story that captured my attention from the first line, and never let it go for a moment. This fic contains just enough sadness and angst to make you hold your breath and bite your bottom lip, with worry, but the ending makes it all worthwhile.
Cupid (Harry/Draco - EWE - steadfastly so, according to the author) This fic just makes me smile. Take Narcissa at her haughty best, and Draco at his most disagreeable, then force them upon a rather flustered Harry, and an exuberant Teddy Lupin. Now, send them all to a Muggle Zoo for the day. You just KNOW the results will be worth reading! Brilliant!
Written in the Stars (Harry/Draco - Epilogue-compliant) This one is canon-compliant, including the epilogue. It spans a period of many years and is really, really well done. Albus and Scorpius are in it as well, and what a beautifuly crafted Scorpius it is! So engaging and likable. There's just such a wonderful undercurrent of longing throughout this story, and the ending made me smile.
101 Ways to Heal Your Wizarding Woes (Or, an Unfortunate Incident with a Traffic Cone and a Policeman’s Helmet) (Harry/Draco - EWE and live Snape) Draco’s attempt to heal himself via Muggle psychology - including writing a series of ‘why I hate you’ letters to Harry - backfires when an overanxious house elf delivers the results to Harry. This one was funny and thoroughly enjoyable. Such a great combination of humour, UST and a satisfyingly sexy conclusion.
Arctic Fox (Harry/Draco - EWE) Harry and Ron are training to be Aurors, and who else is in their class but Draco Malfoy. I like how this story shows the growth between the two. At varying times in the fic, I want to slap each of them upside the head, but that's kinda what I like about this one. And the results of George's confidence boosting potion made me giggle.
Four Paper Dragons (Harry/Draco - EWE) This one was just so nice and bittersweet. Draco is under house arrest and Harry visits him to research a biography about Snape that he is writing. The summary describes it as 'A series of snapshot scenes from their beginning.' And that's exactly how it feels. I liked it.
Okay, and now I should probably go to bed, since it's 3:40am and I have to work at 9am tomorrow... I hate it when I get tired at 9pm and then my second wind kicks in and keeps me up all night!
