Party like its 1985
My goodness i'm such a good little whore for the radio. I spent the entire weekend shivering by the side of the charles river in the name of boating! what a throughly exciting sport! oh well there was a free drink coupon at the end of sunday and that made me once again think about how much better this job is then any other one i've had.
last night after a stellar radio show i caught damone and endway at the middle east. we were there to see endway cause amy knows them and roger wants to play shows with them but personally i think damone kicked there asses performance-wise. that lady makes me want to stop brushing my hair and start practicing my guitar.
In other news one of my all-time-top-favorite music gurus made me a tasty stack of burned cds the last time we met up including a copy of OkGo's new album "OhNo." now i know i talked some smack about this cd before i ever heard it, but i was a little wary of its fancy swedish recording and its producting by the guy who made the first Franz Ferdinand album. what can i say? both of those things just spell "radio-friendly-make-us-some-money-pop-sensation" to me. i was afraid for my dear boys. i mean i wouldn't blame them for being tired of opening for TMBG and Fountains of Wayne, but i really hoped they wouldn't lose their quirky adorablness.
In some ways i was both right and wrong. This album is a slow starter, and had i not forced myself to hear it ten billion times by putting it as CD 1 in my changer i probably would have dismissed it right away. However around track 5 they start sounding like OkGo again and not just another strokes/interpol clone. Track 6 is downright catchy and the hit single "a million ways" is on track 7. apparently the music video is very funny and coming to an mtv2 near you. By track 10 the boys seem to have forgotten that they're trying to get famous and remembered how to sing and play their guitars. Its a little slice of polyphonic heaven. From there on out its a non-stop rock til the end. I have a feeling this one is gonna grow on me more and more until i get around to changing those disks.
