THE CHERRY-BLOSSOM is a national symbol of Japan. Watching the blossoming trees is a national pastime, and people have been doing it for 1800 years.
The Philosopher's Walk (哲学の道) is perhaps the most popular place in Kyoto for cherry-blossom viewing. The place is named after Kitaro Nishida (西田 幾多郎), who used to walk there.
Tenmabashi (天満橋) is probably the best place in Osaka to view the trees. It is the site of Osaka Mint, which has an impressive collection of cherry-blossoms.
