Word of the day:
誕生日 おめでとう
tanjōbi omedetō
"Happy Birthday!"

Monday was my birthday, so I grabbed a couple friends at the last minute and went to Zuboraya ( づぼらや). The huge fugu fish at the front of the store (pictured above) is a Dotonbori icon, along with Kuidaore taro and the Kani dōraku crab.

Fugu (河豚) is the Japanese word for 'pufferfish' (or 'blowfish,' or 'globefish'). Fugu meat is poisonous, and is potentially deadly if not prepared properly. Dishes must be prepared by licenced chefs, and are considered a delicacy.

Below is a list of what I ate. It was overkill in every sense of the word: I figured if one part of the fish wouldn't kill me, another would! I even drank hirezake (ひれ酒): sake with toasted fugu fin.
