New Soutaichou Part One -- A world of Hope
[PLEASE NOTE THIS IS PART ONE OF TWO!]
Today marked a new day in the history of the shinigami, their second soutaichou since forming as an established Gotei with structure and command. This man or woman would lead them through the post-war chaos and eventually there was hope they could be led once more to independence.
The votes were in, acting captains' votes counted as well as the ones of fully established captains.
It had been almost unanimous, how could the choice be any different? Ukitake Jyuushiro might have health issues, but he was also one of the most powerful shinigami left and certainly acclaimed as one of the wisest. The shinigami would be honoured to follow him.
The ceremony began at dawn as it had with Yamamoto-soutaichou so many thousands of years ago, the entirety of Las Muertes turned out to line the streets and watch the thirteen squad get the honour of soutaichou's squad and the haori to be presented to Ukitake.
As a measure of the new rule he intended to impose, a gesture of peace and alliance with those in the Living World - from exiled Urahara to the Quincy - they had been invited into Las Muertes for a free four-day pass to witness the ceremony.
Outside the great wooden doors of his new squad, he turned and let kind brown eyes scan the crowd with a bright smile. He had hope, he would work tirelessly to protect all those who had put their trust in him.
A voice behind him, on of the soutaichou's guard of honour, stepped forwards and began to speak the words that would make him soutaichou.
"The shinigami have gathered behind one leader once more. By an official vote, the captains have vowed to follow and obey. In the name of Las Muertes, the Living World, the sacred duties of the shinigami and the King's Realm we name the following as soutaichou..."
