Cold War
inspired by Paul Wunderlich’s work (both untitled the two farthest right)

I
A curled
knurled
hand
coaxing me along
frame by frame:
pointing in accusation
at unenlightened despots.
Its own achievements a
placid lake -
starless night.

II
A taxidermy dreamscape.
The great (gender confused) buck with
nonessential anatomy flirting (obtrusively) -
nipples as eyes.

A doe with
spindle-thin legs
stomps decayed usurpers while
facing a single poppy -
the flower of Veterans.
The darling deer’s legs
silhouette hips that
in turn capture hidden
crevices.

After imaged skeletal
arms trace shadowed
actions,
a salute to the supposed
traitors.
Their futile sacrifice provides
fertile soil -
army green.
