So I've just finished my first month at AMES, and I do believe that what is commonly known as the "crap magnet" that two of the guys carry so proudly is being passed on to me. Because it never fails, the crap always gets thrown my way.
Which brings me to today...we're on our way home from dropping off our patient...which is a long story in itself, but I'll spare you...and all of a sudden it sounds like we are hitting a swarm of insects...buzz buzz buzz, and then I see a oh so pretty stream of blue light whiz across the top of the rig...which means, yes, the entire electrical system of the rig, both in the front and the back, just completely shot craps. So we call the other rig that was out, who had already had to deal with a tire that blew out this morning, but they couldn't help us because they were on their way to Indiana to get a woman to dialysis becasue she couldn't go to her regular appointment today, and she absolutely had to have it. So that means we get to sit on the side of the road, stranded, in this wonderful heat for about 2 and 1/2 hours until the tow truck gets there. Boy, was that fun. Now, that rig is broken down, another is getting fixed because it got rear-ended, and the other is not registered with the state, therefore, we can't use it, which means we only have one rig, until who knows when. Wonderful, just wonderful. I did have a fairly short day today, which was a nice change of pace.
And now, I'm enjoying my next two days off with no crap being thrown my way...I hope anyway.
