In all likeliness, LJ received a DMCA takedown for something specific in the community, and LJ just shut the whole thing down instead.
Oh btw, that means that if that was the case, everyone who ever posted to it, now has a very high chance of being sued, as one of the cornerstones of sending a DMCA takedown is to acquire the contact information of the person making the infringement. Hopefully that doesn't happen, it would be stupid to ignore the kind of backlash that happened when the RIAA did that.
let me revise, as it's very specific: "Asking for the contact information is only to pursue legal action"
For the DMCA takedown, they have to state the exact infringement. Though I wouldn't be surprised if someone just reported the community itself, and wasn't specific at all.
