Why I don't watch Supernatural....
When it was a new show, I had meant to start watching it but never got around to it.
And then Wincest permeated the fandom and fanfic and it forever tainted my impression of the show. All I can see now is Wincest. This is also why I can't play FFVII, because my first introduction to both FFVII and yaoi was through Sephiroth/Cloud fanfic comic/rp two of my friends were writing and obsessing over.
About 2 years ago, I saw an episode of SPN(That's it's acronym, right?), the one with the wish granter that hooked people up to IVs and slowly ate them while making them live in a fantasy world.
I've seen the final shots of Dean in Hell.
Last night I watched the one with Ted Raimi and the wish granting fountain and the suicidal teddy bear. I commented that Dean bugged me, that he was too ..."Cowboy".
Today I've watched the series premiere and episode 2, to give it a chance.
I do not like this show!
Ok, look, Dean is a selfish prat whom I really, really dislike. He up and grabs Sam from his happy life, when he wants nothing to do with hunting. Sam wants to be a lawyer and be with his one dimentional girlfriend! Let him! Why? Because I agree with Sam when he said "Other than pictures, I never knew mom." She died like 22 years ago! Get over it!
But Q! Their dad raised them to obsess over this stuff all their life! This stuff is ingrained in them!
Then dad should have gotten over it too.
But Q! It's a curse or something and certain Winchesters are born and something something something!
So there's no choice. Woo.
But Q! If Sam didn't go with Dean there'd be no show!
Remember when I said Dean is a selfish dick for dragging Sam into all this? According to P, Sam was having dreams that One Dimensional Girlfriend would get 'Fridged. If he was getting dreams about that, and he was happy with her, that was more than enough reason not to leave her to go with Dean. And if he did go with Dean, only to come back to her dead, I'd be all "YOU brought this into my house! YOU got her killed! FUCK YOU! YOU Go find Dad! You FUCKED UP MY LIFE!" Not "Revenge tiems nao!"
Since it's the first episode, you can't say it was out of character, but it seemed forced.
That's my biggest problem with this show, everyone's motivation seems forced. Either through writing or 'destiny'.
Also, this show is what made me sick of the word 'misogyny'.
