I just returned from the New Bev's double bill of Wargames (1983) and Cloak & Dagger (1984).
I hadn't seen
Wargames in ages and it's still a great movie (Ally Sheady!); it has aged well and the technical details are pleasingly in the "cool nostalgia" file rather than the "what were they thinking" bin.
I had heard of
Cloak & Dagger but never seen it. I was surprised and tickled at the abundance of D&D and TSR product placement accidentally documenting the high point of AD&D 1e. It's funny to watch in the light of current paranoia and security theatre.
I don't recall having been to a weeknight showing at the New Bev before. It was a lot more quiet, both in terms of the number of people in attendance and their exuberance. That's a feature, not a bug.
And (over)thinking(it) about movies in general:
Why Strong Female Characters Are Bad for Women.
