Re-watching How I Met Your Mother from the beginning as background noise has been an interesting experience so far. I'll write about that more later, I think. This is going to be something of a links post.
Ray's (
Cover Me) tastes seem to run quite a bit more mellow than mine, but I do enjoy covers, so I follow his blog quite closely. In practice that means that I'm sometimes behind in my reading because I wait to read each post until I have a chance (or am in the mood) to fully explore the links from each post. Last weekend he posted a set of links of covers of Kermit's
The Rainbow Connection. I wasn't especially fond of the featured cover, but I hadn't seen this version by The Dresden Dolls before:

In a similar vein, today's Astronmomy Picture of the Day is a beautiful Northern Californian landscape:
The Belt of Venus over the Valley of the Moon. I haven't made it that far north yet, but it's certainly high on my list for the next couple of years.
Continuing the theme,
this Firefly tribute project of ambient originals could be worth keeping an eye on if the samples she links to take your fancy. I'll be watching.
That reminds me that I don't think I've given any love to
Marian Call, an Alaskan singer-songwriter of the geeky persuasion (her Got to Fly album is inspired in large part by Firefly and Battlestar Galactica). She's about to embark on a nationwide tour in which she aims to play each and every state. So, if you're stateside, keep an eye out. Sadly, I think I'm going to be out of the country when she plays Los Angeles, but a road trip isn't out of the question if the timing works.
[If the cover in the music field above intrigues you, you can download it, and several other great cover/mash-ups from
this Cover Me post.]
