Amusing night

Last night was fairly amusing. harlzen and I had popped by a friend's place (just on the road behind us) to pick up some keys. We were convinced to stay for some of their 'national drink', which in this case was a plum brandy from the Slavic countries.

This is not a drink for the faint-hearted! It's apparently a cure-all for whatever ails you, and the most beneficial way was to take a shot of it every single morning. My friends swear by it. Of course, the fact one is a teetotaller and the other rarely drinks because she doesn't like drinking alone... that has totally no bearing on the medicinal qualities of the drink. Nope, none at all.

Of course, not one to pass up something new, both the bf/partner/fiance (take your pick) and I were happy to imbibe a small quantity. It's incredibly fragrant and I can quite understand how easy it is to drink and be merry. And our hosts were generous pourers... to the extent that harlzen was more than a little sunk in his cups (although that is somewhat of a misnomer since he's awfully cheery when he's had a bit. I'd almost say he was just more him, if that makes any sense!)

Lucky we only lived barely 200m away, as stumbling home (no matter how romantic... I think we stopped just about every 15 metres...) in the dark wasn't such a great plan as I think we nearly stumbled into someone else who was also well and truly stoushed (we think he was relieving himself into the bushes of one of the houses). harlzen is quite amazing when he's tipsy. He's quite, quite, chatty; not that he usually isn't, but when one says that alcohol loosens one's inhibitions, it's not wrong in his case! But it was fun and certainly ego-boosting for me. ;)

Now the plan is to introduce those friends to some sake and plum wine, but after that plum brandy, I'm not sure that there's anything as potent that we can get our hands on... suggestions?
