How about "Write only for fandoms that have passed both their Golden and Silver Age, and moved solidly on to the Bronze?" Ancient, established fandoms filled with the detritus of the Good Old Days, where the BNFs are long-gone and immortal, are perfect because there's no one left to care about a new writer's work. It's been working beautifully for me...

Oo! I've been looking for fandoms like these, but everytime I find one they suffer an unexpected resurgence. I swear I'm cursed... So -pretends to be nonchalant while inspecting her nails slyly glancing to the side- what fandom did you find?

I've been writing Sailormoon since I started seriously writing fanfic, but by then the boat of BNFdom had long since sailed and the fandom was well into its decline. There's still a somewhat steady influx of garbage on the Pit, but that's almost completely separate from the core of the remaining fandom. The quality writers now are pretty much down to a little group of us who all know each other. It's kind of eerie living in a dying ghost town that was once a bustling metropolis

You know, I'd completely forgotten about Sailormoon, which is one of the few fandoms that could actually apply to. I've tried my hand at a few television fandoms which I figured were past their prime, but everytime I stick my head in they seem to suffer a massive resurgence (I'm sure the two events are completely coincidental, but it's still a bit unnerving ;).

We don't have to put pairing labels in our summaries, nobody pitches a fit if we use fangirl Japanese, and when we have drama, it's beneath the notice of fandom_wankThat's pretty much my idea of fandom bliss. Although I have to say that come of the larger fandoms I've been in have been pretty tolerant of my lack of pairing labels in summaries. I'm also the only alt-pairing writer I know who *hasn't* received hatemail strictly because of the alt-pairing, so maybe I've just lucked out

Well, I can pretty much guarantee you that the sun has set on Sailormoon for good. The manga and anime are all out of print, the licenses have all expired, and if the live-action didn't bring the masses back nothing will.

It seems a lot of things began with Sailormoon. It's like the Future Planet Earth of anime fandom - it all started there, but most of the population moved off to colonize other worlds, and now the old folks reminisce about it while the new generation gets bored of the stories about this place they've never seen.

I'll probably move on myself before too long. My guilty secret is I have a persistent yearning for BNFdom, and an old broken-in pair of shoes may be comfortable but they can't get you up Mt. Everest.
